Need help with wee wee pads!!! Hello all....well we've had Maxx now for 2 weeks....and are using wee wee pads, but he just won't go at all! I catch him & move him there to finish pooping and then I give him a treat & make a big fuss about it....and when he pees on the carpet I tell him no and bring him to the pad...I put a paper towel in his pee and press it on the pad so the scent is there. I pick up his poop and move it to the pad. I have Nature's Miracle Spray that I spray after every accident. He just hasnt gone once at all. I don't know what else to do....ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!! |
It sounds like you are doing the right things. Just keep watching him and putting them on the pad when he misses. Sometimes it takes awhile. Just be consistent. |
You're doing all the right things. It's just gonna take patience and persistance. They eventually 'get' it. |
I would suggest bringing him to the pads like every 20-30 minutes and use whatever phrase ( like go pee-pee or whatever you want to say ) I think if you looked at it like you were training him to go outside, you would need to take him out like that so he would learn and get the idea, so you are really doing the same thing, just inside with pads. It's really about the repetition until they learn it! Good luck! |
maybe you would have better luck taking him outside to go potty. Take him out on a leash so he is not running around and playing and while he is doing his thing tell him good boy and reward him with a tasty treat. Good luck. |
Ali, you're probably right, but I live in an apartment complex that is over run with stray cats, a lot of them look really sick, and they use our little grassy srea to do their business, so I don't want to let Maxx run out there at all, especially since he isn't done with shots....even when he is, I don't think I want him out there! |
How old is he? |
Just keep doing what you're doing, he will eventually understand. You might want to try putting him on the pads every 20 min. or so for awhile, and put him on the pads right when he wakes up from napping or after a big play session. Good luck! |
Do you have him confined to a very small space? This helps. Good Luck! |

you have to confine him to a small area and keep doing everything you have been. He is still very young, when I got max he was 15 weeks old and already potty trained (thank god) but there have been members here that have been trying to potty train their dogs for 1 plus years. it depends on the dog, some catch on fast and some are more stubborn. He will get it eventually:) |
I would definitely suggest getting an ex-pen or something for him. If you can confine him, the chances of him successfully using the potty pad are much higher. Any time you see him sniffing, just put him in the playpen with a potty pad until he goes. After 20 minutes or so, if he doesn't go, let him back out but watch him VERY CAREFULLY. Any time he sniffs, pick him up and put him back in. Eventually, he'll get it. That's what we did with Franklin and now he jumps at his playpen when he needs to potty to be let in. |
