collar or not? I was thinking of getting a collar for my baby with a bell,.. like a cat collar? I am talking about this to ask if anyone opinion of this. I just sometimes lose track of him and his size in the house and would like to know better where he is. And also like to say this is an awesome site and people are freindly. P.S. I also allready have a harness coming to start being able to walk him..so he doesnt run away.. so small and fast. |
I know some here prefer break away cat collars with bells as it's safe if it gets caught on something. I have always used just regular collars and have never had an issue. I just make sure they fit well so they aren't too tight or too loose :) |
You would probably be able to get a little bell and put it on the harness, I would do that. Or get the cat collars that pull apart if they get caught on anything. |
The issue with collars is getting caught on something and being strangled or haveing a crushed treachea so if you get a collar a break away would be the best because you would be surprised what they can get caught on jmo i do have a fancy collar for Memphis if we go to somewhere special like a faimly event but he doesnt get put done to much so i dont worry about it then |
I have a breakaway collar with a bell and id tag for Jambo. I use a harness for walks. |
collars are fine if you are not using them to go for a walk. I keep a collor on my dogs with their info tags all of the time, but when we go out to walk I put their harness on. Just want to preventand undue pressure on the trachea. A bell on the collar or harness would help you locate a pup in a large house. Once Cricket went missing and I was sure she had escaped the house somehow by mistake...even though I am super careful and use baby gates...found her an hour later sleeping up on a little bookshelf in the corner. She was on top of a row of paperbacks! With all of the calling and crying she never woke up and responded...I was frantic! my little mischief maker!! Of course I kissed her and hugged her when I finally found my little sleeping beauty, lol. Sue & Cricket |
I have collars for my 2 but they only ware them if we leave the house.. But Koda's has the bell on it .. I'm going to get a collar that has one for Mi too.. I love the sound of the bell when he is running around lol:thumbup: |
Franklin wears a collar when he's out of the playpen, in case he were to slip out the door or something like that. It's just a normal collar - I am always home when he has it on. He also has two tags on it that jingle and let me know where he is in the house. I LOVE it. |
I got Koda used to a collar since she was a baby. At the early stages I used to get the safe cat with bells and It was safe. I keep a collar on her 24/7. I only use the harness when we are going for walks, |
We put a cat bell on Coby's collar when he was tiny and not yet adept at jumping out of the way! ;) Coby wears a collar but any leash is attached to a harness. |
Please do not use a collar. Put his bell on his harness. There have been too many incidents on here of babies getting hung with collars on. Even one case where the puppy put it's paw under the collar and choked itself. Collars are extrememly dangerous. |
When Maxi was a puppy he was wearing breakaway collar only when I was home and he was by my side. My place was also puppy proof 100% and still is. I heard a lot of horror stories. Now that he grew up he wears breakaway collar all the time with his tags. The only time we put regular collar on him when we go somewhere (most of the times thou he has his breakaway) and of course we always use harness when we are out.:) |
