Handmade Yorkie Bed! 2 Attachment(s) Hi everyone! Ever since I got Callie, she's been trying to find interesting places to sleep and get comfy and then realized that she needed a Yorkie bed! I didn't want to buy one because I have a sewing machine, LOTS of fabric and wanted to make something wonderful for my babies. This one I made is big enough for both of them to sleep on it and they love it. They are both asleep as I speak, comfy as ever, lost in their little Yorkie dreams. The top part is made from designer upholstery fabric, that has a feel similar to denim, but is still softer. The bottom fabric is a type of polyester I think. Its filled will poly. Question though: I have made several of these in the past and always wondered what it would be like to make and sell them. Could you see yourself paying around $25 for one of these beds knowing that its made with designer upholstery fabric? Maybe protected with scotchgard? I am pondering opening my own etsy shop, but would appreciate any input first!! Thanks!! |
That is a really nice looking pillow! We just keep getting throw pillows and blankets that are arranged in areas of our place for the pups to find comfort, but they still prefer to lay on our clothes and in our bed. |
my yorkies like to sleep on anthing of mine so your idea is great. you could take old clothes and make beds for them.like patch work quilts |
I think it is a Great idea. People Love to match their decor and I personally think the fabric on this one is Gorgeous! |
I think it is beautiful - I love the fabric :) |
You did a lovely job on their bed, it's so cute. I loved the 1st picture, too cute! |
That is too cute! & they look like they are lovin' it!!! |
Looks great and very cozy:) |
I think they are really nice!!!! I would try it! make some BOY COLORS!!!!! oR UNISEX COLORS!!! |
I personally wouldn't want anything that couldn't be washed. All Joey's beds and pillows have a zip or snap covers so that I can wash them. He no longer has "accidents" but the oils in his hair can make a fabric look dirty, of course I usually use light fabrics. Is the fabric dry clean only? |
No, the fabric can be thrown into the washer with no problem. As a matter of fact, I always wash fabric before sewing anyway. I agree with you - I wouldn't want something that can't be washed because mine DO still have accidents! :D I am going to the upholstery store today to get more fabric. I will get some boy and unisex patterns/colors! :D |

So many people don't do that, even big companies, good for you. Looking forward to seeing the sample fabrics. |
New Bed! 2 Attachment(s) Okay, well I've discussed this with my husband, and we've decided that I'm going to try to start making these as a business. I have a family friend who is going to help me. We already have a name too -- "Royal York Cushion Co." LOL --Samuel is working on my logo. I just think its a cute name and my husband is a graphic designer, so he's practically obligated to do this. LOL. Anyway, I've created a bed. This one is for those boys that are rugged and like the outdoors. It is different kinds of fish with their names underneath them. This one is also big enough for two good sized Yorkies at 24x24. If anyone is interested in it, I am asking $21 for it plus shipping. My friend Sharon and I came up with the idea to make a couple different sized white waterproof cushions, and then you purchase whatever slipcover you want to go with it. That way, if there is an accident or something, you can just take the covering off it without having to warsh the whole thing. But, until we get the sizes figured out, we are going to stick to these washable beds for now. Thanks! |
I like these and would definitely buy one! What other fabrics did you get? |
Aww those beds are adorable! I love that first fabric! Congrats on your new business! |
