Questions ??? When is a yorkie considered full size? Right now Rudy is 6 months and weighs 4.5 lbs... just wondering how much growing he has left.. thanks.. |
My vet says that at 6 months old, they are roughly 1/2 their full grown size. This held fairly true to A.J, my schnoodle. After he turned a year old, he didn't grow too much more size wise..just gained some weight. Hope this helps! |
That is weird because my vet said with my Sammy that at 6 months (he will be tomorrow) that he was pretty much done gaining he said that he may gain a pound more if that but pretty much this was he was going to weigh. Hmmmm anyone else out there know???????????? I am more confused than ever now. |

I have heard that a yorkie usualy stops growing when they are 8 to 12 monthes old. I have also heard that they double the size they are at 6 monthes.Hope I helped! |
I have to agree with my vet and Nancy on this one i don't think doubling their weight at 6 months is correct maybe at 12 weeks but not 6 months. Here is a chart you can look at http://www.pomderosaranch.com/ToyBreedWeightChart.htm |

Like I said, I have no idea if it's true or not...just what my vet told me to go by (rough estimate) and my experience with A.J has held true to that. KaCee will be 6 months next week, so I guess only time will tell. |
The growth now will be very slow. I'd guess another pound at the most also. Toy breeds also mature sooner than larger breeds. A Yorkie can (though shouldn't") produce at 9 months, whereas a great dane doesn't usually sexually mature until 2 years. A have a six month old pup also:) . She weighs 3 pound 11 ounces. |
You know i just thought about it and with my bigger dogs the the doubling at 6 months rule was right by pups doubled their weight at six months plus some but then my minpin a toy breed was at 6 1/2 pounds at 6 months and she was full grown at 7 1/4-7 1/2 pounds. Of course after a few years she got overweight on me but i am happy to say now that she is almost back to her healthy weight :) So yeah i have to agree somewhat the 6 month rule does apply to some but i think it is the bigger breed that it applies to |
