I see a big difference in all subjects related to a yorkie under 4 pounds and those over 4 pounds. Could we add another one? I love this site and there is so much to learn but I waste so much time with problems with a 2 lb. furbie and mine is 8 lbs.

I don't really understand your question. Most of our dogs were 2 pounds at some point. You want a seperate forum for dogs over 4 pounds?

Sorry, I know that they were 2 pounds at some point, but maybe we could have catergories for teacups, toys are mini's?

Yorkies aren't classified that way. They are all considered a toy breed.

Other than perhaps hypoglycemic episodes...all yorkies are subject to the same health concerns regardless of size.

You are right. My yorkie is 9 mos. today and a couple of weeks ago the vet weighed her and she was 5'5oz. I don't know what she will weigh when grown but I uderstand that the average weight of a yorkie should be around 7 lbs. Is this correct. I have also heard that these very tiny yorkies are not as healthy, even though they are precious. I'm hoping mine will round off at about 7 lbs. and I will love her as much as if she weighed 4 or 5 lbs.

Not sure of the average weight, but the "standard" calls for 7 pounds and below.

I agree with you. Tiny yorkies have many more health issues.
The average weight for a Yorkshire Terrier is under 7 lbs.

Yorkies are a Toy breed, and according to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, a yorkie "Must not exceed seven pounds." They set the standard.

I have yorkies from 2 1/2 to 8 1/2 lbs/ Why do you think small ones have different problems from larger ones. Mine sure don't. They are all yorkies and as such have very similar "problems". My little one has not had to go for a vet visit since she had her puppy shots so I don't feel she has any more health problems

I think I understand what you are trying to say...Maybe ppl could make their thread titles more specific. I don't think certain issues that occur with the dogs makes a difference in weight, if its health related maybe for certain things may cause more risk because of size. I'm not an expert so I don't know
