Question? 6 mo. male yorkie  I have been reading on here that if you plan on having a yorkie fixed to do so by 6 mo. I had gotten him at 5 and a half mo. I have no intentions on breeding him. I was planning on having him fixed this month (April). and if I do how safe is it. I have done sooo much reading and some say it's ok but for a yorkie I hear it can be dangerous, do to putting them under. |

One reason people say to get it done around 6 months for males is because they have a tendency to start marking. We had Chip done at 8 1/2 months, but that was because he was extremely sick for awhile and we didn't want to get him neutered on top of being sick. He doesn't mark unless we are on a walk outside, then he'll do it maybe once or twice. It can be a little dangerous putting a yorkie under anesthesia, but that is because they are so small. How big is your yorkie? Chip was 7ish lbs when we got him neutered. |

Just make sure the vet has a lot of experience with small animals, isofluorane (anesthesia) is what they use to use. I have not been a vets office in awhile. I am petless for now but just make sure the vet and techs are up to date in their technology.. |

Hi there, When I had Lucy fixed I had them do her blood beforehand to see any potential risks. I waited for her so she could have any remaining baby teeth pulled. I haven't heard that it becomes risky after six months but maybe some of the other members know? Welcome to YT :) Benny is a handsome boy! |

Logan is 8 months old but weighs only 3 pounds. So the vet suggested waiting until he's a year before neutering. He is marking outdoors but not indoors....yet! |

Could you get a second opinion? |

I was told to get Maxx fixed when he turns 4 months....is that way tooo early??? |

My Vet (who is my breeders vet so knows Yorkies very well) has said my Baby is ready to neuter now and he is 4 months old. As long as the testicles have dropped and he is healthy he said he is ready. If Ozzy was smaller than he is (he's 3lbs .1oz) I would wait until he was bigger but he is so sturdy and healthy. I have him scheduled in 4 weeks so he will be 5 months old and hopefully around the 3 1/2 lb mark. Again my vet has extensive experience with yorkies and particularly Ozzy's line...but I'll still need a sedative that day!!! |

Ask you vet. When I mentioned this to the vet, she asked something about if he was raising his leg to urinate. When I said he was, she said he was ready. I had Nolee neutered at 7 months. I was soo worried about putting him to sleep, but he did great. That afternoon he was ready to eat, even though the vet said very little food, and drink. It was very had to keep him still. He wanted to play. It was a great relief! Good luck. He will be fine!:D |

I had bandit neutered at 3 months...when he was barely weighing 2 lbs. He did fine. He came home, acted like nothing ever happened. He is now 7 months and 2.9 lbs...I think he is gonna stay tiny. He is still losing his baby teeth, but he will be going under again, to get them pulled, and I am not worried about it. I am sure the vet is monitoring all the vitals. Good-Luck! |

I've been reading a lot about people getting their yorkie's teeth pulled is that a common thing?? Does it need to be done? I've never had to do this with my dogs in the past? |
