What should I do?
 

Ok here is my problem...

Faith is almost 7 months old. She weighs 2 lbs, 6 ounces. Obviously, I DO NOT want to breed her. My question is...should I go ahead and get her spayed now? Or wait until she's closer to a year and a little bigger?

The issues are that I am worried SICK about a little 2 pounder going under...I was worried the same way about Sophie and she was fine with her spay...but she also weighed 3 1/2 lbs at the time and was 9 months old. So I COULD wait until Faith is almost full grown...although she probably won't get MUCH bigger.

On the other hand, while I seriously doubt she'll come into heat before 1 year because of her size, what if it did happen? Now, I'm very careful about keeping my males away from the females, even though both are too young to do anything yet. Tucker is almost 9 months, Ryder is almost 7 months. However, there is always a risk involved if two males are in the same house. Plus, there is also the thought that I really don't want her to even have to go THROUGH a heat AT ALL, since there's no reason for it to happen.

Anyways, I'm so torn. With all the horror stories of little Yorkies dying under anesthesia lately...I'm just scared...but I don't want anything to happen to her...ya know?

Any thoughts? :confused:

my girls were 2 1/2 pounds when I spayed them, but they were also VERY under nourished:(

See, that's the thing, Faith is chubby...so I think a lot of her is fat...she's super tiny...:eek:

Same thing with me. I am going to get London spayed but I am still scared. She is a yr and a half now and 2.8 lbs when she eats a lot, normally it is 2.6. She def did grow from 9 mos, she was like 2.4 then, so i would suggest maybe waiting a little, let her fill out more. That's what i was told to do. I'm still scared to do it but i know i have to. She is also very petite, while my Sophie is 3 lbs, she is bigger boned so i feel safer getting her done

If it was me, I'd go ahead an spay her. She should be fine. I wouldn't want her to go through a heat cycle and for there to even be a chance of her getting pregnant at her size.

What not consult with your vet? I think it's usually suggested to spay before the first heat though.

No they werent rescues (long story):(

They did very well with the surgery though:D
