while I believe it is important to welcome everyone - and if you read new threads - you see I post on just about everyone of them - I post on all that I see. But I do not believe we need an official welcoming committee - because in doing that you leave people out again. You don't need officers or a committee - we all just need to do our part. So many people read the newbie threads, but don't post on them - just say Hi - let them know we want them here. Give them something to connect to. I think PMs are great. But to make a friend, you have to be a friend. It takes work to make friends anywhere. Being kind, reaching out to others, offering support and advice and sharing a laugh can bring us all together :) It has taken me a long time to feel a part of things and really understand who is who -without mixing folks up. One of the biggest things that has helped is meeting some members in person. Suzy & I started planning a meetup in our area - we did that by PM & a phone call or 2 & then we met in person, a few mths later and we are now close friends. Meetups are a great way to get to know each other, not just for our furbabies to spend time together |

YorkieTalk appreciates any members that wish to help new members get around and get used to our community here. This is by all means completely voluntary to help new members feel welcomed here, as sometimes threads may get lost in the shuffle. Thank you for helping out, and thank you for starting the YT Welcome Committee, LuvnmyYorkie! :) |
I think this is a great idea. But I would caution making it too structured. In the business world, you very carefully "start" something. Because the only thing that will ruin a good idea is starting a good idea and having it fizzle. I would like to think of myself as a good ambassador to new members. I would like to be on the "committee" but cannot make any promises to do much more than what I already do. My non-YT life does sometimes get in the way of my YT life ;) and there could be periods where I'm not able to visit much. I never volunteer for a job I can't put 110% into. I would like to be "in the loop" of new members though and promise to continue bumping (many times by replying) uncovered missed threads. One thing that I would like to see is more people put their personal name clearly in their signature..... or at least those who like to be called by their first name. Some new people do have their name in their signature, but I'm always a little afraid I can't tell if it's their name or their dog's name  . Personally, I don't mind being called Diane/Coby/For My Coby/Hey You. Using first names sometimes helps you feel you know someone, but there are so many people to keep straight by memory unless you've met in person, known a long time, etc. I think it might be intimidating to see others calling each other by their first names and not be able to join in. So that might be a suggestion for our new members. |
I'm a newbie on here, and I have not felt unwanted or left out. I don't post too much, because I don't have the answers. I have 2 furbabies, a 5 year old boy & a 4mos old boy. I learned a lot by reading other peoples questions & answers. |

I gotta ask - your user name is very interesting; does it mean anything special? |
welcoming committee this has to be the most confusing group i'm on and as a very newbie i am finding it difficult to find the links that i want. i breed and show yorkies and live in Alabama. if i ever find my way around i hope to learn a lot here. peggi:confused: |
I'm in! The board has grown so huge - I think that's the real problem under all these other issues. It's impossible to stay intimate with such a burgeoning population. |
Did you know 45 new members have joined today? 104 since Monday!?! I am starting to compile a list and I am astounded! I knew YT was growing but I had no idea how quickly. |

I joined, hung out her a bit for a few months, didn't post much & then life outside YT was calling and spent many, many mths off YT, before coming back on strong. I have another forum I joined, posted twice - have great intentions of going back, but haven't done so - despite warm welcomes. I want people to love being here, but I know not everyone is going to spend lots of time here. No need to compile a list - if you click on Member List you can even look at members arranged by the number of posts |
Hi ladies. I just wanted to say thank you for all your help with this, but I'm not going to be able to do it anymore. Just a warning to those of you who want to continue it, be prepared to be harrassed through PM's. I tried to do something to help YT and all the negativity here, but all it did was breed more. It was something new for the vultures to pick apart and argue about. Its sad. So good luck to those of you who want to keep doing this, but I just won't. |
