Veterinary Advice - Please HELP me not worry Georgia was recently fixed. She had the stitches that are supposed to dissolve. It has been about 2 months and it has felt like the stitches are in there. She is still tender althought it looks like it has healed. there is a tiny little scab and now a bump. IS THIS NORMAL? The vet said it can take a while for the stitches to disolve and that sometimes the bump happens and will go away? |
My youngest cat had a large lump from her spay for several months..it was just a reaction to the stitches. It is gone now though. If you are worried, have your vet take a look..better safe than sorry. |
my sisters Bischon recently was spayed,, and her disolving stitches didnt all dissolve,,she had to take her back again and let them get one out,, it was making a nasty discolored bump on her belly, but its now fine,,once they got it out,, i'd take her back and have them check it.:) |
Some lumps and bumps can be normal and some can be abscesses and need to be looked at. You should ask your vet. Ellie was closed with staples but the sutures underneath the skin took months to dissolve. Her body didn't fight them like it should have. It wasn't a big deal though. |
My daughter's yorkie had abdominal surgery Feb 5th. About 2 weeks ago he had an area about 2 inches long that raised up and became red. The vet said it was a suture granuloma and gave her antibiotic cream and it has since cleared up. If it wouldn't have she'd have had to have surgery done on the area |
Lucy's inside stitches took a couple of months before it wasn't lumpy but it did go away. |
the skin can sometimes have a reaction to absorable sutures they should be removed |
I took Lana in just on Mon. this week for her stiches. they are months old and not dissolved and one was poking out. He said they used the stiches that dissolve slowly so she will have less reaction to them and since shes small (just hit 3 lbs) it will take a while, Like 9 months to dissolve. Going made me feel better and a little research on the stiches on the net made me feel better too. I say when in doubt go to the vet. Good luck |
Same here. Coby had some internal stiches as well as outside stitches and one didn't disolve. Part of it was poking out and the other part could be felt below the skin (and bothered me much more than him!). Took a while, but it was just fine tho. |
