Hey everyone my name is Heather. I live in San Diego, CA and I have had Maxx for 1 week....he is now 9 weeks old!! I have so many questions!!! UUgghhh

Okay first off, his mom was 4lbs and he dad was 5 1/2. So the owner told me he would be between 4-5lbs.....well @ 8weeks I took him to the vert he weighed 2.6 lbs....according to formulas I looked up, he will be over 7lbs full grown, is this possible???? I am so confused!!!!

Also potty training.....we are using wee wee pads/crate training and he is just NOT getting it!!! Ha Ha I don't know what else to do. He is in his crate when I am not here, maybe 1-2 hours most a day, then he also goes in there to sleep. When he is out we have the pads, but he always goes on the carpet! I don't get it! Any ideas????

And chewing........yes I know puppies do it, but any tips on how to stop it before hubby has a heart attack? Ha Ha P.S. he has a TON of toys!!!

Welcome:)

His adult weight would be very difficult (impossible) to predict at 8 weeks. Just because the parents were that size doesn't mean their offspring will be. You might be able to take a look at grandparents and great grandparents to get a better idea. Seven pounds is very possible.

I will leave potty training to other members because I am just not good at it.;)

When he starts chewing, tell him no firmly and replace with an acceptable chew.

Welcome! Size is hard to predict. Some grow fast and stop early others grow over a year. My Cali was 1 lb at 9 weeks, breeder said she would be 3 lbs, she is 5 1/2 lbs at 3 years. Roxie is my newest and she is 6 months and breeder said she shouldn't grow much more as her lines don't grow much past 6 months. She is 3.6 lbs now but I think she will end up closer to 5 or 6 lbs. 5 or 6 lber's are still small dogs. With potty training Roxie I wasn't watching her close enough at first and she wasn't geting it. So I went back to basics and whenever I couldn't watch her I put herin her crate and then let her out and put her on the pads and told her to go potty. After about a week of this she finally got the idea. But she was 4 months old, 9 weeks is too young for them to really get the hang of it, but keep trying he will catch on.

It is very hard to tell size, as everyone has said... Size wasn't too important to us, but Roxi was about 1.2 @ 10 weeks when we got her, and now she is in her 9th month and only 2.8!! As far as pee pee pads, Roxi trained rather quickly, but when she had an accident, I would just tell her no and put her on the pad.. Then every time she did go on the pad she would be rewarded... And yorkies love to chew.. I have bully stix, and she loves it and she chews on it for hours and hours!! Do you have any of those???

Welcome, so glad to have you here. I know you will learn lots. My only suggestions is just to have patience. It will take months to potty train. Just learn his signs of when he has to go. When you catch him going where he is not supposed to, tell him No and take him to where he is supposed to go. It will take time.

I don't have bully sticks, never heard of them. I just know the vet said no rawhide so kinda unsure what to give him for treats...:confused:

Welcome! Great to have you!! Im not really sure what to tell you on the potty training! Not having much luck there myself! :( But as far as the size, the breeder I got Kobi from said that he would stay small too! His parents were 5 1/2 and 4 pds. At 15 weeks he weighs roughly 2 3/4 to 3 pds! So Im really not sure what his final weight will be! From everything I heard and read its kinda hard to tell! Proly not very helpful but I just wanted to let you know that was my experience too!

Yorkies are stubborn when it comes to potty training especially males. Just keep at it. It can take a long time.

8 weeks, they usually triple the weight to get a so so accurate reading..I use pee pads, consistency is what it takes..he will have to pee quite often..I always put my dogs noses down by it and then told them NO, you pee on your paper(you have to catch them doing it), then took them straight to the pee pad..Ginger caught on very fast, but at 7 1/2 mos. she is still a little booger when it comes to the pooping part..I just put a pee pad where she keeps going poop at(never on the carpet though)..buy him a baby kong, that should keep him occupied enough to keep him from chewing on things he shouldn't..you can also buy some oil of cloves and put that where he is chewing, it actually works better than bitter apple or anything else out there as far as I'm concerned..my dogs always loved the taste of the bitter apple. good luck with your new little guy and post pictures..

Regarding the training issue, everyone has different methods, but I think the best rule of thumb is consistency with their schedules. I have found this to work quite well with mine. Good luck... :)
