Crazy People!
 

When I got home from work yesterday, I asked my fiance how the day had gone and if he had taken Syd for a walk. He told me this story:

About 2 minutes into their walk, a SUV pulled up near them where they were walking on the sidewalk. It had an elderly couple inside. For some reason Syd decided that she didn't like these people and starting barking and flipping out like she does when she sees kids (usually she is pretty good with adults). The lady rolls down her window and asks my fiance what kind of dog she is, so he tells her. Then she asks "does she smile"? We have no idea what that meant...but at this point Syd was REALLY flipping out, so my fiance just gave her a "sure" and then kept walking. The couple then proceeds to pace him slowly down the street, watching Syd (who is of coure still flipping out). Finally after about 5 minutes of this, my fiance turned around and said "you are bothering her! Would you please leave us alone!". He got a dirty look from the lady but they drove away. Poor Sydney was shaken up and didn't really enjoy the rest of her walk. :(

What was up with that? If they had been younger, I would have worried that they were scoping her out to steal her. But they were an older couple. Did they think that he had stolen her? I know that Syd doesn't look like the kind of dog that an 5' 9", 200 lb, 26 year old guy would own...but that doesn't mean he stole her.

This stuff freaks me out! Screw carrying pepper spray...I'm going to start taking walks with a baseball bat! :eek: I need to move to a nicer neighborhood!

LOL! Poor Sydney! I'm glad your fiance told them to back off! Nosey people.

geez!!! crazy people!!! i think what they ment by smiling is kind of like what chanel does. (villette's dog) i'm glad your fiance told them off!!!! it isn't that hard to tell when you're scaring someone, if the dog was flipping out they should've known better. you know you might want to listen to syd, dogs can sense stuff we can't. if either of you see that suv again, go in the other direction.

I have two Yorkies that smile on command (mother and daughter) so maybe they had one that could do this silly trick and were just trying to be friendly and talk 'yorkie'. It's hard not to be suspicious with all the rotten things that do happen, but I try to give 'em the benefit of the doubt.

That is an odd story. Makes you think they were looking for a missing dog...but they wouldn't have had to ask what kind it was. Hmmmm :rolleyes:

I that was the case...that they were looking for a missing dog...it must not have been their dog they were looking for. They would have known the breed...and couldn't you recognise you dog faster than that? I could pick Syd out of a line-up of a thousand yorkies.

I agree completely. FREAKS! *shakes head*

I'm just generally suspecious about people in my neighborhood anyway and I'm much worse when I have my baby with me.

Fortunatley (well...fortunatley in this situation anyway) we don't have a yard or anything. So anytime that Syd is out of the house she is on a leash walking with one or both of us. If someone wanted to steal her, they would either have to do it then...or break into our house to get her.

I am not sure what they wee doing but Sidney was on to them. I would say stick with her thoughts and err on the safe side. Good for your fiance'.

I have a similar problem with my classic car. At gas stations men will try to approach me about it. I don't like it. I wnat my space between people that I don't know and myself. Scary.

Good for Sydney. She was getting bad vibes.

You know the eldery can be sometimes...they probally thougth she was the cutiest thing in the world and just couldn't get enough. When I walk Mollie, people will take a hard stare, I think it's because of her size and how cute she is, which I have to agree.

I would think it would be ok if they stopped and asked one question. However when they seen how upset Sidney common sense should have told them to just leave. Some people are just dumb.

I agree it was weird but they really could have been admiring your baby - I dont even walk my girls in my hood - too many gang-bangers.... but when I take them to the store etc...I get stopped by all sorts of people - I've been followed before several times in my area so when I have the girls - I always take a detour coming home to make SURE no one sees where I live -

Moving to a better neighborhood may not help either - that's where LOTS of yorkies are getting snatched these days - people will see them out - follow the owners home and steal them out of their yards ! It's a scary world out there for dogs now - it just sucks !! But you were right to be leery of those people.....you can't be too careful anymore.

That would freak me out too but, it is possible that they were just looking at her, even though that is an odd way to do it.There are alot of freaks out there on the loose but, I guess old people I would give the benefit of the doubt to.
