I Hope She Listens Last night as I was playing with Deegan in the front yard and a neighbour from around the corner drove by, and was in awe of Deegan. I've never met her before so we talked for some time and in the process she told me that her and her family was looking to get a dog for her kids and that she wanted something small like my little guy, but also didn't want to pay much. She also proceeded to tell me that she was looking at a Yorkie-Poo that she found in the paper in a near by area for about $500. And as soon as I heard her say that, my face dropped because I knew that she was talking about a lady that runs ... well, pretty much a puppy mill. This lady that I say runs the mill, may have a little bit better conditions than some, but still I wouldn't trust her and told my neighbour this. The mill lady breeds Yorkies along with cross breeding them with others such a Maltese, ****zus, Poodles, Cockapoos... the list goes on. Her ads never stop in the paper and I know that she is doing it out of pure greed, to make money. I understand that we all have to make a living, but I don't think that it should be at the welfare of the dogs. My neighbour told me that the puppies come with first shots, to make it sound a bit better. I tried to make her understand that she should avoid buying a puppy from this lady, but I don't know if it will help. I know that there are other ads in the paper for other cross breeds such as a Yorkie-poo, like the type she wants all the time, but there number is not in the paper constantly. So I don't know what to tell her. I don't want to sound like I am contradicting myself by telling her to buy a bross breed from an other ad, but she doesn't want to pay the extra money for a reputable breeder either. And I would really like to help keep this mill lady in our area out of business or at least slow her business. What is your opinion and what would you tell her to do. I need some help with this. |
Another thing I forgot to add in my first post was the reason I believe that she is a puppy miller, besides the fact that she's constantly breeding is because I've met a couple people who have bought puppies from her or have visited the place. And they say that as long as you come with the money, no questions are asked about you, your family or home life. Which I know a reputable breeder would never do that to their puppies! Also I plan to go talk to her again and I am going to give her some info and the website for the puppymills.... MillBusters.com included. Hopefully that will get the message to her. Any input will be appreciated. |
In my opinion, the breeder you described cannot be "doing right by the dogs" she has if she is only charging $500 for them. She certainly isn't making any money if she is providing the necessary care that the mothers and babies need. I think the price is a big red flag. If you cannot pay an appropriate price for a dog to insure that the breeder has cared for it and its mother properly then you shouldn't have the dog, because the purchase price is a very small poetion of what will be required to raise and care for that dog over his/her lifetime. This is what I would tell your neighbor. Of course, if you can gether to come on here and read the qualities of a good breeder that would help. You need to impress upon her the fact that she should want a healthy puppy with a good tempeament is close to the breed standard since she will have that dog in her family for 10-15 years. It is not a decision and a purchase to be made lightly. |
quick hurry!! tell your neighbor about millbusters.com!!!! explain to her what a puppy mill is. maybe take her with you one day and show her around, (perhaps pretending that you're interested) tell her all the faults!! i'm sure you can manage to talk her out of it. |
