im nervous :( lola is getting fixed 2 morrow her operation is at 8 im sooo scared ive waited a lil longer cos i just have a bad feeling something will happen.. i dunno i think of the littlest things like sometimes she does this weird breathing i dunno... my friend told me not to get it done she doesnt need it.... but i think i should.. ppl say she wont be as playful blah blah... can someone give me some feedback :( |
I am bumping this so that you can get great advice here. I will be doing the same thing soon. I regret waiting. Bella went through her first heat cycle and it was no fun at all for her. Wish I'd scheduled sooner and not put her through all that even though it's scary for her to go through the operation. It will be better for her in the long run with health. I am wishing the best for Lola. Keep us posted. |
You are doing the responsible thing. Rarely does anything go wrong with spay/neuter. Are you having bloodwork done before to make sure there are no underlying health problems? Spaying is worth it - you'll almost eliminate her risk for mammary cancer, whereas an intact female has a 1 in 4 chance of developing it. She also can't develop pyometria or go through false pregnancies...or a real accidental pregnancy. |
I don't have a lot of advice since my little girl is going to be in the same place as your Lola very soon. I am very nervous too. I can tell you what I have been told by the Vet. It is more dangerous to not fix your pet if you are not going to breed them then it is to do it. There are so many health risks to them when they are unaltered (LOL nice word isn't it). I have in the past only had boys so my expirence is with them. Their personalities didn't change for the worse, they were just as playful and happy as before. Miss Pep C is going to be done within the next month and as I said I am very nervous about it but I know it is what is best for her health and her emotional state. Hope some of the breeders here respond, they could say it much better than I. I will be praying for your Lola and for you tomorrow. Best wishes to you both. |
Believe me, you are doing the right thing for all the reasons Michelle gave and more. You do not want to have to deal with heat cycles every 6 to 9 month for the rest of her life. When they come in heat it changes their personality and the two months following the heat cycle they have all the same symptoms they would have if they had been bred. They mope around, some have false pregnancies and it can be very stressful for them dealing with it. We will all be praying for your little girl. |
You are doing the right thing-as other members said, you don't want to deal with heat cycles and you don't want to worry about unneutered male dogs being around. Plus, spaying minmizes some other health risks. I know it's not easy when they have surgery, but know that you have all of us here on YT for support while she's in surgery tomorrow. She'll be home and running around before you know it :) I'll be thinking of you and Lola tomorrow, and praying for a fast recovery so that she can be home with you :) |
i agree its for the best...martini got neutered last month and i was a mess i cried so hard that we almost decided not to...but she was in pain and the next day back to normal and healed up great and im glad we decided to do it..our prays are with u |

I'll be thinking of you and your pup today. Prayer going up............. |
  You are being a responsible Mom. I didn't see any change at all in Toto's personality or her behavior. I will be praying for little Lola. She did get a little more clingy ... she was almost a lump under my skin. Get ready for some big time spoiling! ;) |

The up side She is every bit as playful... She is a sweet funny playful darlin, the same as always. Hasn't had a accident in the house since the spay... ( I think it might be because she has onsies on so she won't lick her wound) What ever the reason, we are very happy about it! She now sleeps with us! :D The down side Although we tried very hard not to let her play, her stickes opened a bit and her healing time is prolonged... Try to keep you baby calm for a full week. We have tons of pillows around the floor so she won't have to jump to get up and down.... They didn't send pain meds home and she was very uncomfortable the first night. (Try to insist on some pain meds) I took onesies and sewed the neck up a little on both sides... We un snap them to take her potty and it is a little bit more work, but wel worth it. She can't lick her stitches. |
my last 2 dogs that were spayed did great lola was up and wanting to run the next day i had to keep her from playing. lacey who also has a liver biopsy did ok. on both we decided to go woth laser and it was much better. |
Prayers for Lola and her Mommy.... I'm sure that everything will be alright, so prayers are for a VERY speedy recovery for Lola and a stress-free day for Mommy. Please update when you can. {{{ hugs }}} |
Just checking in on Lola & her Mommy today. I hope everything went well!;) |
