Peeing When Excited :( Help! suddenly when my almost 4 month old pup sees guests she pees while jumping up and down. she never did this before... :-/ whats going on? how to fix it? thanks!! |
Well, some folks call it excited urination... Zorak does this, he will urinate when he sees me after a long day at work. Some doggies also do submissive urination and it is not something you just 'train' them out of. We have diapers to make the issue less bothersome. Maybe they can outgrow it, but to my knowledge (limited to be honest), they just either are prone to it or not. Hopefully someone here will have a great tip that can help me cure Zorak of this issue! |
I had a pit bull terrier that did this. He got better when he got older, but never fully out grew it. I have known people who's dog did out grow it though. For now it is probably best to greet guests outside. That's what I did. |
Sorry, can't help you with your problem, but you are not alone! as you can see, their is many dogs that have done the same thing. Kitty pees whenever she sees a new dog she never met. She loves to play with new dogs. I'll try to look into it more. Hope someone more knowledgeable can help you sooner! |
Oh Dear! :-/ I hope she does grow out of this. It just struck me as odd because she use to be fine when meeting new folks or receiving guests whom she knew already but as of two weeks the above mentioned incidents began. Ive never had a doggy do this so i sure hope its just a phase. Thanks everyone for their replies :) For the meantime I will try to have her greet guests outside! |
Hi I had this problem with Alfie, everytime someone came into the house a puddle would end up beside our feet. I watched an episode of Dog Whisper and a lady was having the same problem with a little Maltese. When you come home or when a visitor calls, the best thing to do is not talk to your baby and make a fuss. Let your baby outside for toilet as soon as you possibly can. We did this and the turnaround was amazing. If either of my husband enter the garden and alfie is out playing we find the best thing to do is stand still stroke your baby and believe me pull your feet out of the way as there will be a puddle. I have a dribbler. I'm very insistent that guests do not even acknowledge him---no touching, no high excited voices, no eye contact. Later they are welcome to sit down and allow him to come to them, but they still need to remain very calm. Never, ever bend over him. Works MOST of the time. I'm also very calm when I come home. Basically ignore him while I take the others out of their ex-pens and talk in a very, very calm, quiet voice. I don't touch him until we have been outside and everyone has calmed down. Again this works MOST of the time. Good luck! |

My shih poo did this his first year. It helped to not speak to them or touch them when I first walked in the door. (although it was difficult for me not to do that)! Good Luck! HOpefully it will stop. |

Tucker is 3 next month and he still does this. I do ignore him when I come in and it has helped. But, if someone comes over it doesn't matter if they ignore him or not....he just gets so excited he pees. We keep him in a belly band when people are coming over. It doesn't stop it but it keeps him from peeing ON people...which he is famous for.:rolleyes: |
My golden retriever did this anytime we had visitors when she was a puppy. She completely outgrew it. Now Marley does the same thing, and can do it numerous times in a row. I'm hoping the same thing will happen with her. |

Meeka does this when we first let her out of the kitchen after we get home or wake up (we have a gate up in the kitchen for our yorkies so that when we leave we don't find poopies and pee all over the house) She gets really excited and usually jumps up on the couch (my brand new couches by the way) and pees all over. I always take them outside 1st before I let them out of the kitchen and if I wait out there 5 minutes or 20 minutes it doesn't fail, she almost holds it and when she is let out of the kitchen she instantly pees on the couch. It's very frustrating! |
