Today I was going out of town with my son to find him an apartment for when he starts his addiciton counseling training in Grand Forks. I thought about taking Maddie along, but decided it would be best she stay at my daughter's home where she feels very much at home and we were going to be gone all day and doing a lot of traveling and in and out of the car a lot. She is still on medications for her last illness and I thought she'd do better staying in Minot.
My daughter recently got a fence and a deck and it is so nice because the dogs can be outside without being chained up. Well, leave it to Maddie to get herself stuck under the deck. My daughter was out putting a piece of patio furniture together and heard Maddie barking and barking from under the deck. She called her and she didn't come so they looked under the deck and could not see her. She had somehow gotten into a part under the deck and could not get out. My grandson crawled on his belly under the deck and couldn't get to her to get her out. By that time, from the sounds of it, Maddie must have been spooked and would run back and forth in the small area she was in and letting out nervous barks. My daughter decided she'd have to take a board out of the floor of the deck to get to her, but it is a different type of screw driver and she didn't have one. She called everyone she could think of and no one was home...finally got ahold of her cousin who said he'd be right over. The screwdrivers he brought didn't fit either, so my daughter started running to the neighbors. She found one with a screwdriver and came back. These are long screws and there were quite a few screws to get out. Meanwhile Maddie is getting pretty nervous in there. They got the board up and Maddie was so scared she went way back in a corner and huddled. They then decided they would have to take a long side board off and that one had about 30 screws! Thank goodness one of the neighbors came with a power tool to get the screws out and it still took quite a while. Once they lifted the board off, my nephew grabbed Maddie out of there because she was trying to get further away from everyone and she was so scared. My daughter was so shook up and scared I'd come about that time to find my puppy stuck under her deck. All in all, Maddie was stuck in there a little over an hour and so scared and then with all the commotion and activity going on, she just acted spooked and didn't trust anyone. She was also a dirty mess when they got her out of there...poor little sweetie! I guess if anyone was going to find a little hole leading into that part of the deck, it would be Maddie...LOL...she can be such a little stinker! Anyway, she got through that ordeal and now she's sleeping like a baby. It was dark when I got there to get her tonight, so I couldn't quite see where in the world she was under the deck, but my daughter and I will try to figure out how she got in there so we can block it off. Until then, Maddie has to be on the leash out there. Maddie sure caused excitement in her neighborhood. I'm so glad she got rescued! |
