Welcome, i am sorry your baby is so ill, hopefully your vet can help her get better ! |
Thank you for your prayers!! Holly is off all medications today and will be on one steroid just every other day for 5 more days. Her poops are normal Her water retention is gone (water pill Latix) did the job overnight and a shot from the Vet to save her life...she had sooooo much water in her belly and chest it would have stopped her heart in a few hours had I not brought her into the Vet....(she was moaning and had trouble breathing) She is eating prescription Vet can food and small kibble just a cup total daily nothing else...no carrots or chews...she misses is too. She eats just 2 tablespoons of food 4 to 5 times a day. She is fairing so well so far in the last 5 days ...that the Vet is trying different methods ..so she would not have to be on a steroid for long. His goal is to have her on just small meals that are very low to no fat diet several times daily. He sees this disease in other Breeds of dogs...This is his first Yorkie with this problem. He had been treating her last month for what he thought was a food allergy...then a tapeworm problem they never caught in all 3 of her fecal sample tests...She passed this long long white yarn strand looking thing after diahrea. I brought it in to show him...he confirmed it was a tapeworm that must have been in her for a year to be that long and big. The Bloating caused serious concern and that is when he did blood work and x-rays...I called the breeder to ask her more questions about Holly and inform her Holly inherited this life threating sickness.... that is not curable ..but, just maintained and most likely will shorten her life (according to the Vet) She never heard of it and was very much surprised....she asked many many questions like "what are the symptoms and what was being done for Holly. She got Holly from another breeder after she had a litter of pups...Then SHE bred her too...That is when I saw Holly and wanted her instead of a puppy...I had her fixed (she had a bladder infection when I got her too)...then I took her to a park for the first time in her life and taught her to go on walks ...she loved it. The breeder wanted to breed her again...but let me have her ...because Holly and the other females were not getting along. This Breeder has been a breeder for over 24 years. I love Holly with all my heart. It has been around the clock care...I am so tired and catch naps when Holly naps...I am hoping the worst part is over and I hope she will be with me for longer than a few more years. She looks normal...and today is very playful and has energy. She cries for something else to eat...but, I don't break down....for fear of a relapse...which I have been warned about. thank you all again for your well wishes and prayers. Holly is at the moment pulling at my sock for some attention and hugs:p Nikeann07 and Holly:aimeeyork |

I am sorry about your baby! If you don't mind me asking, what is protein-losing enteropathy? I am curious.... |
I read your long entry before....It almost made me cry. I could hear the hurt. After I had my puppy for a week, he had an issue with hypoglycemia (the breeder didn't tell me.) He almost died and I was soooo scared. Rascal is fine now, but I know how it feels to have your sweet little furbaby look at you and want you to make it all better. I know your situation is more dire than mine was, but keep your head up. It sounds like you are taking good care of your furbaby. Keep us posted on the progress. |
I hope Holly gets better. Sounds like she might be a little bit with her having some energy and wanting to play. I'll keep you and Holly in my prayers. |
I am glad Holly is a tad bit better today. Every bit counts. I hope the worst is behind you two and you can just move forward and enjoy life together. I hope the steroids work for her and she does not retain fluid in her tummy anymore. Your an awsome Mommy. Hugs, |
i missed your post before, but i'm glad to hear that Holly is doing better, you're a great mommy, and YT has a huge prayer circle... miracles happen... :) |
You and Holly remain in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs from me and Lucy... |
:~o I am so sorry to read about your dogs medical problem. Although I have no information about this, I do want you to know that prayers do help and you have mine. Sue & Cricket |
You are in my prayers! |
Kudos to you for picking Holly over a new puppy. With all your constant care and love you are truly her angel here on earth. I am so happy to hear that she has taken a turn for the better. My prayer's are with you and Holly, don't forget to take care of her most important person in the world too YOU:) |
Holly and I slept through the night To all of you ...I can't express how much I appreciate your concern. Holly did okay on no pills yesterday ...very hungry most of the day..but, she was just on the diet of a couple of Tablespoons of food...and by now she knows that is all she can have..and walks away from me feeding her by hand...she then goes out and sits in the sun and watches my other two yorkies play...she comes back looking for me in about 5 minutes...so I grab a cup of coffee and sit with her outside in the sun too. Your prayers are a very powerful thing...If anyone would have told me she would learn to monitor how much she eats by herself at one time...I would not have believed it. She did this 6 to 7 times yesterday...I log when she poops and when she eats and how much. She has not lost weight. She is suppose to start one steroid pill every other day now for 5 days. I plan on calling the Vet first to give him an update on her progress before I start the pill again. Again I can't thank all of you enough for being there for me and Holly God Bless all of you!!
