since u were so helpful... I have a 4month old little boy bentley. I was wondering how old is the best before we breed? I just want to breed him once then I want to get him neutered. I think he is just the best pup I have ever seen and I wanted a few more just like him so I thought that would be the best way. Any advise? Is this wrong? |
I kind of know how you feel. That the way I felt about Joey, until I did some research. First of all, that sweet little innocent puppy changes if you let him go through puberty. Bitches will become the most important thing in his life. Not you. He will be able to smell a bitch in heat miles away, and he will whine and cry and want to run away. So many male dogs are lost due to accidents with cars. It's the number one cause of death in male dogs. If you get him fixed after he has already had sex, he will mark for the rest of his life. If you have them fixed early enough they stay a puppy forever. Breeding dogs is a serious business, there's a great deal to learn and many health tests to be done to make sure he isn't carrying an inherited disorder. He is also susceptible to getting an illness (an STD) from the dog he's being breed with. I hope you do a through research on this before you decide to breed. |
thanks you so much. that was very informative. i will look into it a bit more. what is the best age to neuter? |
There's quite a bit of debate on this, but Joey's vet wanted to wait until he was 5 or six months old. The reason for this was he wanted him to have more weight, and he wanted to pull the remaining milk teeth at the same time. Yorkies don't often lose there baby teeth on there own, and if not pulled can cause serious problems with the permanent teeth, including decay and infections. Since they have to be put under he wanted to do it all at once, we also had a microchip done as well. |
