What would you do? I have a really nice park very close to my appartment and I like to go and walk their often. I really want to take Louie with me, but I sometimes walk up to 2 miles. It is so pretty and other people have their dogs. It makes me feel guilty for leaving him at home. :( Would it be okay for me to take him that far or should I just leave him at home? What would you do? |
I would take mine w/me if given the chance. Both of mine love to walk! However when I go out for a power walk I leave them behind, I don't expect their little legs to keep up with me at that speed! But for a nice stroll they will come along regardless of how many miles it is! |
Yeah it seems like Franklin could walk and walk and walk. Maybe you could gradually build up the time? Maybe go for a mile walk for 2 days, then a mile and a half for 2 more days, and then finally 2 miles. They have lots and lots of energy and probably would LOVE to get out with you. :) |
Why not take him along and if he tuckers out before you do then you can just carry him. Then you get a work out as well as a nice walk. |

You should take him at first he may get tired, but I think eventually he'll get use to it. Bring water and go have fun, I can't wait till Izzie has all her shots so she can start taking walks. :) |
hi i thought the same when i rescued little joe and when i took him to the beach prom one day he walked/ran for 3 hours solid and never stopped he wore me out i never walked so fast |
I think he would love to go for a walk with you. |
We have taken Joey on walks since he was a puppy. Now at age 1½ he can walk much faster than me. I have to strap a little backpack on him now to slow him down. I've read that they can do 5 miles if you build them up to it. Like the others have said, if he gets tired you can carry him for a few minutes and then he'll want to walk again. After a long walk, he is so good! |
How old is Louie? Both of mine go for long walks up to two miles most weekends with us and we're wore out before they are but you could always bring a backpack to put him in the first time if he looks tired and bring along some water too if it's warm out. :^) |
if it were me i would take my baby with me and also buy/take a doggy stroller. and that way if he looked like he was getting tired i could let him sit in the stroller and then once we got to the park he would be well rested =] |

You can get a carrier to put him in when he gets tired. I think there are several that come with shoulder straps and work very well. You could also get a stroller for him to ride in when he gets tired. I think he might surprise you though and just walk the two miles and love it. |
I Think You Should Be Fine. We Were Away Last Weekend At The Beach And Harvey Walked For Miles - He Never Seems To Get Tired!!!! It Is Lovely To Be Able To Let Him Run Free - Not Often We Can I Dont Like If Other Dogs Are Around. I Would Just Take Louie With You And See How He Goes - Pick Him Up If He Cant Make It At First. |
