Wood Furniture Repair Does anyone have any ideas on what I can use to try to repair every corner on all pieces of my bedroom furniture after Diesel and Daisy chewed them all day today. (hubby fell asleep and let them have the run of the house). I cant believe how much they got accomplished in one afternoon. You would think they would make something to build up the wood spots that were knawled off and then be able to try to match the wood color. I dont care if the colors didnt match, I just want the "chewed" look gone. |
Welcome to the world of "Yorkie chewed wood furniture!" I have "dentil" moulding in my family room and kitchen. I cannot tell you how to repair the wood (my son is a woodsmith but he's no help) BUT, I can tell you that a post I read on one of the forums can prevent more damage. Deodorant--yep! human deodorant. I went to the dollar store and bought a cheap stick of deodorant and rubbed it on all of the wood furniture and mouldings and they stopped chewing immediately. I have used the wood filler a lot of times to repair antiques. I buy it at chain home repair stores..Relax, there is more to come.. |
Mia just chewed the end of my kitchen cabinets! Those tiny babies can cause alot of destuction. She got sick after she chewed it. I have to watch her every second, I caught her trying to chew on my guitar! :) |

I read this too but I'm not sure if it would work for Piper (who has destroyed a corner of our beautiful, brand new coffeetable  ). I think he likes the taste of deodorant-at least Secret- because whenever he gets the chance, while we're snuggling through the night, he likes to lick my armpits (sounds disgusting, I know  ) I wear deodorant ALL the time and he seems to enjoy the taste. I always have to pull him away and reposition him and myself to get him to stop...kooky dog :D |
LOL!!! My puppies are partial to the sheet rock in our kitchen!!! :D They have literally chewed two holes in our wall!!! You gotta laught :p Hubby doesn't think it's too cute though  Maybe I'll try putting a thin paste of deoderant on the walls, LOL!! |
Why is it that we mommies think that it's really no big deal and daddy's are always moaning about the fact that they chew? It's drywall in my house, I've finally got 2 of the holes plastered and wallpapered again, and they have left it alone!!! But the last hole I'm leaving for now, I've patched it twice and they've licked it off, even with cayenne pepper in the paste  My main trouble is with one of my cats, she loves to use my door moulding as a scratching post, they're really bad :( ... |
I asked hubby. He use to work for a carpenter. If possible he says just take a sanding block and sand until smooth....then match the stain....then a touch of varnish....Geeeeeeeeeeeez.....men!! Now if I could just get him to fix the corners around here...hahahaha |
I refinished an old buffet and used a wood filler of some type, it reminded me of clay. I was able to build up some corners and holes. I don't really remember exactly what it was called but look around at home depot. Although I wouldn't even attempt to fix anything until they have outgrown the chewing a bit. I have several things I need to fix, but I'm waiting a while as I'm sure there will be more. |
I have a very old metal bench swing type outdoor piece that needs some TLC. Has some serious rust out places. What can I use to fill in those areas and spruce it up? What is the best paint to use on it? |
Oh yes chewed corners are a feature during the puppy stage... you can use filler to make the corner the sand into shape and varnish or reprint surface.... Your right its amazing how much destruction they can cause in a short time, what annoys me the most is they have hundreds of toy... please chew me :) |
After Ziva ruined a antique desk, also during one of my DH's naps... I bought a 36" IRIS expen from Amazon for Abby. Best $70 I ever spent! |
I was sold a wood filler at an antique repair shop to use to fill up cracks in an old antique chest I redid. It worked wonders to hide the cracks, gouges and a chew or two perhaps, was then sanded lightly, recleaned and stained. Looks good. |
To prevent rub Vicks vapor rub baby on the furniture it stinks but they hate the taste. I did this first for my lab who destroyed everything and now for my boys. They go to chew get that taste and donot like it. It is safe for pets, my trainer recommended it to me. To fill in chew marks see if you can get wood putty make sure it is the kind that allows staining. Rub putty into holes, sand down with fine grade sand paper than stain same color as furniture. May not match perfectly put should be pretty close. |
