I am lucky that I work part-time and have my sister come to spend some time with Conner during the day. He is not alone much. When I get home, we take a walk, then it is playtime, dinner, more playtime, wind down with a bone (cow tail), then bed. Conner is in a large cage with his bed, food, water and toys. When my sister comes during the day, he knows it is "chicken time". She says he just wants her to put the chicken down, then leave. |
We keep Bailey in an exercise pen from 7:00 - 4:00 4 days a week. And, just like Sammybear's mom - we don't go out at night and we don't go out on the weekend (unless Bailey can come with us). Yes, the guilt was horrible in the beginning. But I have found that the routine makes Bailey feel safe and she gets in her ex-pen gladly each morning (with a treat of course!). I have two beds, a floor pillow, two blankets and water available for her in the pen. She NEVER drinks any water??? But its always there for her. Lots of play and we are all very happy. Good luck!! |
Well I'm glad I'm not alone in bringing up this topic!! I took a whole week off with Roxi's surgery.. I thought it's bad enough she stays home alone when we work, and I couldn't bring myself to leave her alone when she is not feeling good after surgery!! At least she is good enough now that we can leave her the run of living room and kitchen, which are both really big areas.. It's just so hard, no matter the circumstances when you have to leave them at all!! Our area is VERY pet friendly, there is even an Easter dog parade on Sunday!! And most of the restaurants have patios and dogs are always welcome! So we just LOVE that! she goes absolutely everywhere with us when we aren't working, so thats cool... |

Gracie and Holly are in an ex-pen with pee pads, toys, food and water. They pretty much sleep all day. They are wired for sound when I get home! |

Penny is alone 3 days a week from 8:30 til 3:30. She is in a crate with a bed, toys, food and water, and a potty pad. She does pretty well and loves her crate. I also leave the radio/tv on. But sometimes I take her to work on one of those days.:) |
