Really disgusted by what I saw!
 

I went to one of our local feed stores to buy a puppy shot. They have a room that they sell birds, cats, rabbits and puppies. It's a mom-and-pop's kind of place. Anyway, they ladies in the pets area have gotten to know me because I've always gone in just to play with the puppies.

Anyway, I asked about a yorkie that I heard they had. One lady told me that he was in the back in a seperate room. Mind you, all of the dog's cages are spotless! That is...TILL SHE TOOK ME TO THE BACK ROOM.

There were 5 week old Morkies...no mom. Schnauzer pups, 1 yorkie, a couple of pens of chihuahuas and one fat cat. I swear, those pens must have not been cleaned in a week. There was poop everywhere. Even the cat's litter pan was SO full of poop, you couldn't see the litter anymore.

She told me that there was another yorkie but he was in a different room. I didn't want to see anymore.

This is the mom-pop store that I've defended a couple of times here. I feel like such a fool. She told me that she just hadn't gotten around to cleaning their cages...yeah, I can see that! I am just disgusted with what I saw AND myself for believing that it was a good place.

True, they get their animals from local breeders but I agree. DO NOT BUY FROM PET STORES!!!!

hadn't gotten around to cleaning their cages?!!?!? people like that just make me sick! you know i think you could report them for animal neglect. its places like that that need to be shut down! you shouldn't feel bad about defending them, you just didn't know. thanks for posting that, BTW-what is the name of the store?

Kimberly If I was you I will contact the SPCA, there is no excuse for them not to clean those cages. That is disgusting. It is sad really. Most likey those poor animals are sick too, being in that kind of environment.

People are so DUMB! It makes me so frustrated. Hadn't gotten around to cleaning the cages. What does it take 5 mins a peice, they couldn't be that busy. stupid stupid people.

UGH! Kimberley- What did you say to the woman??? I would make sure that I told EVERYONE I knew about the conditions that she is keeping those pups in!

I am sorry that the place wasn't what you had hoped it was. That is terrible.

You might want call the SPCA as suggested.

Do you have any county regs about pups being separated from the dam before 8 weeks..the state of Maryland and VA has that law..perhaps Texas does also?

That's horrible and I have seen worse!! I think it's important to report it though, because no one usually does. If possible you might even want to get pictures. Let us all know what happens.

That really angers me,the poor mommy too,she must miss her babies,prob was too much work for the Breeder :cry8: would rather get rid off them..

Those poor, poor animals!!!! GRRR. I can't believe she's like "oh well" about it too.....gosh how does she sleep at night???!

not only how sad is that, how PATHETIC is that??? can't even find the time to clean out their cages. maybe we should lock them in a small cage for a week without cleaning it out or letting them out at all, lets see how they would like it. and they'd still have it better because they're old enough to be away from their mom, too bad they don't act like it. :(

She didn't get around to cleaning the cages? To me, that pretty much means "there are more important things than the well-being of the puppies". :mad:

These people should be lock up in restroom for week with a toilet bowl fool of poop. To see how they feel. Thats just unacceptable. Glad you found out how it really is. LOL :embarasse

So sad. I cant believe it doesnt concern them or embarrass them to show the back room to customers. :confused:

I couldn't agree more!! How lazy and cold-hearted are these people?? And to have 5 week old pups with no Mommy?!? Lack of common sense too!! I'm wondering about the conditions the other unseen Yorkie was forced to be caged in? The though of it makes me sick :mad:

If they don't take care of ALL their dogs properly, then their a puppy mill. Disgusting.

"Too busy to clean the cages" What kind of prices does she charge,, Im sure they are not cheap... Im sure she makes more than enough to hire someone, even some young kids to take care of it,,,, The fact that she took you back there,, says she isnt that bright. :mad:

Haven't gotten around to cleaning their cages?! That's like saying - I've been to busy to feed my kids this week, or I haven't gotten around to taking my sick baby to the doctor! That is dispicable. You should definitely report it. Even if nothing happens this time, at least there is a record of it somewhere...
