Dry coat Can anyone help me, my puppys coat is getting reallky dry and not silky like it used to be, what can i do to make it sort and silky again |
How often are you bathing the pup? My groomer said too many baths will mess their hair up, if not now, in the long run..Mine get groomed about 3-4 times a year..of course, mine are all housebroke to pee pads, and if you're taking him out to potty, he will stink more, but, they do have sprays and wipes you can use on him in between baths |
I have been bathing him every week, I guess thats to much. TINO uses pee pads too but i do take him out for walks and he likes to ow in the dirt and starts to smell. what can i use and where from? |

I would start bathing Tino every other week. If he uses the pee pad and has a little accident just use a wet paper towel to clean him. My vet stated not to bath more than that. It's takes all the natural oils out of the coat. There are several shampoos on the market that are excellent. Minksheen is one. Works great on a silky coat.(no conditioner needed) Petsilk is another. With petsilk you need the conditioner also. Both are great on silky coats. Both can be purchased on-line. |
Yorkies are one breed of dog that can handle a bath a week. For most breeds of dogs this would be way too much. I think for quite a few people this is average, and this is what Joey's breeder recommended. Of course each dog is different; some have more natural oil than others. Always use a shampoo made for dogs since dog's skin has a different ph than human skin. A quality conditioner is important too; this conditions not only his hair, but also his skin. Make sure you dilute both products before using. I put shampoo in a mixing cup and dissolve it in water first. Another important step, is rinsing you must really do a through job of this. I use a spray attachment in the sink, and rinse for a good 3-4 minutes. |
I would just get the wipes at walmart...My sister has a yorkie, she's 12, but, my sister used to bathe her once a week, now, her hair has no shine to it at all, so, I would still not bathe too much..like I said now, at a young age, their hair may be shiny, but, in a few years, i think people are goint to see they've messed up shiny coats..:( Just like people...people tend to wash their hair so much, and then as they get older, the shine is gone...My mom is almost 82, and although he hair is a pretty white, it's very shiny..she said she never has washed her hair more than twice a week, even growing up... |
