Where should I check for LOST yorkies? A friend of mine called me yesterday, saying she got a call from a friend of hers, who has a "found" male Yorkie. And did I want him:rolleyes: ? The story is, her friend's adult daughter found this Yorkie running around in an area near where we live, but it's basically an out-in-the-desert, low income area, so it sort of raises a red flag for me right there. Along with the fact that it's pretty hard to believe that anyone would just abandon a little Yorkie out in the middle of the desert (although, there are a LOT of abandoned dogs out in this area from what I've heard). Anyway, I spoke to the girl's dad who has seen and interacted with the dog (they don't want to keep it b/c he's got 9 cats, a Great Dane and a Pug; and his daughter works and has 2 small children) and says it's a very nice, seemingly healthy dog, is housetrained etc.....so it sounds like someone's lost (or stolen) pet to me. I told him that I think the girl should take the dog to a vet and have it scanned to see if it's microchipped (he told me they'd called shelters and put out flyers already and nobody responded), and if not, I would take the dog. But I'd like to spend some time today trying to find if it is someone elses (the man told me he's not sure that his daughter wanted to take the dog to the vet b/c "she might be afraid of getting into trouble if they think she stole it"...I told him if she's trying to find the owner, she's certainly not going to get into any trouble, and if it was an issue for her, to bring the dog to me and I"ll take him to a vet to be scanned (or I'll go to my friend's house who has a scanner and I can get it read there and look it up hopefully). W/E. I just would like to find anyplace I could look to check for anyone around this area (God only knows if it's even FROM this area, that's what scares me; what if it was stolen from somewhere else???). I guess there's the shelters first and then where do I look? Thanks for any help or suggestions you might have! |
This is just a thought. Did you consider that the pup escaped a puppy mill in the area if it's an area that's questionable, so to speak. |
Fido Finder is one place to check |
Definitely see if it is microchipped...and let's hope it is. BUT what if it isn't and no one can be found to claim the poor little one...then what? Is there anyone around that can give it the home it needs? |
Well, no, the puppy mill idea didn't enter my mind, but supposedly the dog is in really good shape, seems very healthy and is housetrained, and wasn't starving or anything, so it sounds like it had been somebody's pet. I tried on Fidofinder and all the ones I found it looked like they were lost in '06 or at least a year ago and this was just found (from what I understand) a few days ago. I'll check there again and on Craigslist (which is how I got to Fidofind to begin with). I've now called all the vets anywhere around, and found one girl who it MIGHT belong to; she lost her male on Feb 1st, and it's not chipped. So, I'm going to work with that, but in the meantime, til we have the dog scanned for a chip, I'm going to keep looking. If we can't find the owner after all this, I will probably keep the dog (and have him chipped). I'd just really love to find it's rightful owner, b/c I know how I'd feel if I lost Max. It would be so great to reunite him with his owner! |
Good luck!!! I hope you can find his home :xfingers: Remember too...some lost pets from years ago, may have been stolen or taken in, so it probably wouldn't hurt to check those out if nothing else.... |

the local animal shelters- call those not near-someone may have been traveling Craigslist Lost and Found The newspapers Local vets |
Are there any truck stops near by or a place where truckers stop? I used to work near an area where there was a Truck Stop and you would not believe how many lost or abandonded dogs were found around there.:( Other then that just check the local paper, craigs list, pet stores and vet clinics. If somebody lost him wants him back there will be postings someplace. I would be going crazy if I lost / or someone stole my dogs, so I would try to find the owner. Then decide if you want another dog or to help find him a good home. |
At least people like you will look out for it's well-being....well done ! ;) :animal-pa Debra x x x |
