"Walkies" Hi everyone, hope all of you are o.k. I just needed some general tips and advice on how you all introduced your fur babies to his/her lead??? My Holly Boo is now 21 weeks old and is "Terrified" of her lead!!!I introduced her collar (just mainly for prettiness as would walk her on a harness) but she just applies the brakes and looks terrified when we have put it on her.As i really want her to walk outside and for me to walk both my fur babies together. Ive tried treats and all sorts to encourage her but nothing. Just any tips on how you guys did it would be great. Thankyou:) |
Hi. You might want to let her just pull the lead around with her. Just hook the lead to her collar and just let her get use to it. After a while pick up the lead for a short time then get to were you can hold the lead while she walks around. Good luck:) |
put the harness and lead on her and just let her drag it around in the house. When she seems comfortable with that take her outside and try again |
lead :thankyou2 Why didnt i just think of that!!!!! sometimes the easiest option is right in front of your eyes!!! Really appreciate your tips, i did this with her last night and she had such a funny look on her face!!! . Will let you know how she goes on.:animal-pa |
Good luck! I wish I had known that tip when we first tried teaching Toto. She would just flatten her little body on the floor and nothing we did would get her to move! We finally, in desperation, hired a trainer who came to our home to work with her. Paul had her prancing on the leash in less than hour!! I have no idea how he did it, but she has been perfect on her leash ever since. He then trained us. :p Good luck with your little one!! |
I have this problem with Lily, when she was a puppy she did fine on a leash but since her spay and lp surgery she has not been on a lead. Now when I put her harness and leash on her she just sits down. I tried to just let her walk around in it but she sat in the living room for 1hour and would not move until I took the leash off. |
Make it a game Does your yorkie ever chase you or want you to chase her --- during play? That is what you have to do with the lead. What I did when I started walking Jaya and Jenna, was to first start out getting them hyped up and in play mode. Then I'd run ahead and they immediately began to chase. If you have a gated yard, you can also just have them chase you around. Then put on their lead, and do the same thing. Now I just walk, and they know to follow. Jaya is 9 months and she knows what to do...Jenna is 5 months and she still likes to explore -so i have to be a little more firm on her. But to introduce walking to them, just make a game out of it. |
The first time I put Franklin's harness/leash on, he froze and just sat on the ground. SO.. we started out by letting him drag it around. After a while of that, I took him outside again. No go. I even tried to entice him with his favorite treat -- CHEESE! I literally went through half a piece of cheese trying to get him to go 3 feet. Then we tried it with two people. This helped a little. Franklin would SORT of follow my boyfriend if he ran in front of him. I don't know how or when it happened but one day we went outside and he loved it! Now he walks like crazy. I think just continuing to take her out every day and encouraging her will do the trick. Even if she just sits there, let her get accustomed to the leash and being outside. Eventually just sitting there will be boring and she'll want to explore. Good luck! |
I know off topic, but was just in stoke on trent with my cousins a couple months ago.. I live in LA but all my fam is still in UK.. Anyway, I just put Roxi on a few minutes at a time at 1st then gradually increased it. I started just walking her around the house so there wouldn't be so many distractions, then outside.. took about a week!! thats all, they are so smart!!! Good luck!! XX |
And, I only use a harness... |
