my cat is starting to bully my puppy does anyone have a cat as well as a young yorkie puppy?? at first my cat was afraid of the puppy...and would hiss and run away, or just hide. but now she realizes that pebbles is a little baby and is not going to hurt her.. so now she is taking advantage!! I am so upset... this started over the weekend... what my cat does is scare pebbles away from her food! when pebbles goes to eat... circe (the cat) follows her with her back up like shes going to fight and then swats pebbles on the back with her nails and pebbles goes running and crying into a corner away from her.. so now my puppy is afraid to go to her food! she was already a very picky eater, and we had to hand feed her and leave the food out as well... now she wont eat (even by hand) if she sees circe anywhere around. :( it is just making me sad. I dont know how to undo this. anyone have any ideas or tips for me?? ive told circe no and yelled at her and even physically moved her away but she just keeps coming back and doing it.. im just very frustrated right now :( |
Guess I would suggest separation. When I got Chipper, Missy Cat was determine to kill Chipper. As soon as that became apparent we bought a gate to separate the two. The cat was on the main floor and Chipper was on the 2nd level where we spend most of our time. Even when we would leave the house and Chipper was in his ex-pen, I would make sure that the bedroom door was closed. That way there was the gate and the door as barriers. It scared me to no end. We went on a short trip and took all the dogs with us. When we came back Missy Cat decided it was more entertaining to play with Chipper than try to kill him. Even after we got the Pommie for Chipper to play with, he will spend time playing with Missy Cat. It is interesting to watch. The kitty is about 4 x's bigger than Chipper. |

we have gates up around the house to keep pebbles from wandering... and basically she only has access to the living room and kitchen... circe the cat has the WHOLE REST OF THE HOUSE... which she was staying in, but i guess now she is tired of that. the way the house is designed (its very open and wide) it would be hard to separate them without putting one of them in a bedroom.. arr! well at least i have some hope now that circe might get over this stage and stop harassing pebbles |
Separate until the puppy is a year old and is old enough to stand up for himself.....we kept the killing cat in the kitchen/catflap to outside, and when Tara was a puppy, he would grab her around the neck in his teeth...as if to say "Well, I could if I wanted".....she would just cower and stand rigid ....with his teeth around her, and it took until she was a year old , and me saying "sort him!" for her to woof at him and scare him off ! He didn't bother doing it to my next two who I bought at an older age. I would never leave an evil cat in the room with a Yorkie puppy. I now have the old cat, -kitchen and outdoors, another indoor cat who is trustworthy with the Yorkies, and a 6 month kitten, who is mostly indoors, but has started to go out.....all of them are fine with the dogs, but I would never leave them in the room with the older killing machine ! :animal-pa Debra x x x |
I would definitely keep them separated. You don't want poor Pebbles to start out her life being scared like that. |
I would definitely separate them untill your puppy is older and then still you have to be careful. |

We never had that problem. Penny became the boss of the cats in this house. We have 2. One doesn't like Penny, but she is declawed. The other one likes to play with Penny and Penny actually gets the best of the cat. But they are buddies for the most part.:) |

im hoping the gun will do the trick, because as much as circe is trying to act tough with pebbles, she is a total scaredy cat. any kind of unexpected noise sends her running into her little hiding spot in the kitchen |
