Goosed!
 

We live on a lake and the other morning, the dogs and I were down by the water when a pair of Canadian Geese flew in and landed on the water about fifty feet from us. They had a good honking going and that caught Higgin's attention. He raced to water's edge, standing at the alert (silently), watching the geese. The geese decided to investigate him and, still honking loudly, started swimming right for my little guy! He stood his ground at silent attention, absolutely fascinated by them. But I was not so sure about their intent and decided it might be best to scoop the kid up and head out, so I did. The geese are setting up housekeeping on our lake, apparently, and when he hears them, Higgins raises his head and listens intently.......

Just wait until the Loons start calling!

Oh, and then there were the deer! At Hard Labor Creek State Park in Georgia, Higgins started barking like mad and running away from the campsite towards.....four HUGE deer! Chased them, he did!!!! The nerve of those big ol' things setting foot near HIS camper! Big guard dog.

We have a moose in our neighborhood.....hmmmmm.....Pogo has chased a moose when he was a pup.......What is it about little dogs? They do NOT know their size!

LOL!!! Yoda is fearless as well, he almost got eaten by a big dog one time at a rowdy dog park (we ain't ever going there again!). We have read a few warnings about hawks scooping up little Yorkies for prey. We try to be on the lookout for that, haven't heard much about geese though. I don't think they would scoop up a Yorkie, but you can never be too safe!

Geese and swans strike out with their heads on those long, strong necks. They can break yer arm! I'm sure they could kill a Yorkie with one strike to the head. We have osprey and eagles and owls here, so we watch the sky a lot. However, it is the sheer numbers of raptors in the south, particularly Florida, that were alarming. We kept Higgins undercover in a screen house there. We have foxes and bobcats and other predetors about, too. So we just want to be right along with the little guy when he's outside.

Talk about fast -- Higgins is OUT the door so fast you can't see him. Unless I am allowing him to go outside with me, I have to pick him up first, go out the door, then reach back inside and put Higgins down inside. He has mastered the front stairs now, too. There are two steps, but he doesn't bother with them anymore -- just launches himself straight off the porch! Gawd, I wish I had 1/10 of that energy!!!!

You can always train Higgins for the World Doggy Long Jump competitions they have on the Outdoor Network. :)

There are tons of those Canadian geese around the lake where I live, and I was never that fond of them until I watched "Winged Migration." Now I appreciate them for what they are.

Anyway, I don't like bringing Otis down to the lake not because I'm afraid of the geese, but because their poop is so disgusting. It's as big as human poop and I've heard of dogs getting sick off of it.

Oh yeah, Yoda would love to eat any kind of poop. We haven't been able to teach him otherwise. But we keep an eagle eye out when he's out sniffing away...
