puppy pads as we all know are made of plastic. think about all the pads you go through, then picture all those plastic pads sitting in a land fill for years and years and years to come.... :( washable ones are good, and going outside is even better IMHO. nothing like small poops that just disperse into the ground. no pick up, no mess, and nice green grass. i swear my backyard lawn has never looked better LOL

Honestly, I didn't spend very much time with those puppy pads...I bought this wonderful potty thing I bought (NO MORE PADS!!!)

check it out, it's plastic and you put newspaper underneath no more papers shredded around the house!!!! It's tottally worth the $30

Believe me, the poop doesn't just go away...:D My hubby wishes it did when he has to go out and shovel it up every week and put it in to an old dog food bag and haul it off to the landfill..2 big dogsx 2 big dog poop=1 large dog food bag. I pick my 4 inside dogs poop up, and it gets flushed down the toilet.

I am all for going GREEN. I am sure that is what I am going to do. I just got out of bed and when I am ready, I am going to the store to get a couple to last me till I order more online.

I just have one more question that I thought of lastnight when I was going to sleep. Where do you put the dirty ones till you are going to wash them?
I know that thinks like diaper pails DONT work to keep the smell out??? I hope someone has a good idea for this!!!! Thank you, Ronda

Good luck...I had thought of it, but, had a lot of problems with going with the washable, one is the question you just asked, #2 is hubby said no way are you putting those in with my things, #3 I would think the dogs would think it's like carpet, and if they can pee on that, they can pee on the carpet..?

I've used washable pads for Bitsy since day one and never a problem.

I use Pooch Pads and I bought really cute ones from Little Bit (here on YT) and I love em! I have 15 pads altogether and do a load once a week of just pee pads. I wash em with regular detergent with the bleach already in them. For the yuck factor, you could run an empty rince cycle with bleach after you wash the pads. I don't put my pads in the dryer, they dry pretty quickly on their own.

I have a large garbage pail with a lid, and I fold all the used ones in four (dirty side in), place them in a garbage bag in the pail until laundry time. No smell! Aside from the pee, they don't get too yucky. When Bitsy poops, I pick it up with toilet paper and flush the poop in the toilet. Her poop is really good, it doesn't smear or anything. I change out her pads everyday.

Kudos to you for going green! That's the whole reason I decided to do the washable pads in the first place. Washable pads are so great that I wish my cats would use them instead of kitty litter!

oh but it does :D on a raw diet or good high protein food. poops are smaller and dry up like 10 minutes later. a day or so later they start to crumble and blow away or whatever.

and besides i'd rather have poop in a landfill then plastic. poop is biodegradable. plastic is not.

I just ordered some. Thanks!!! I've gotten some pads at Petco and they want almost $20 for one! I have a large and a smaller one of these, but I am constantly washing. Zoey shreds the disposables. I'll keep trying those and hope she grows out of shredding.:rolleyes:

The ones that we have are from Little Bit, and there really is no smell problem (and believe me, my hubby wouldn't have 'em if there was!). We fold them dirty side in and they wait in the corner of the laundry room to be washed. They are made well enough that the pee is truly in the interior of the pad and there is little to no smell.

I have always used good, old-fashioned newspaper while transitioning mine to 'go' outside but I sympathize with you as there have been several 'paper shredding parties' at my house. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :)

I buy mine from this site too and have done so for a few years now. I began buying them for my puppies and just recently had to use them for my own Brady because of my surgery and not being able to take him outdoors properly. They are extremely well made and have lasted a long time. I highly recommend them to anyone.

When Joj-Gee was a baby and then our toy fox terrier we used fake grass in a big kitty litter box that we cut the sides down on (so they could get in easy). Worked fantastic!!! Also very easy to clean and disinfect. At first we put the puppy pads in under the fake grass that had attractant smell, but after they got the hang of it, no more pads.

I use Little Bit's washable pads. We use it part-time inside Tucker's xpen. He won't go potty in the house unless he is inside his pen wich is helpful when I need to leave the house for longer periods of time. I love her pads, they are very absorbent and hold the smell. Mine is dark and you cannot see any pee stains anymore, wich is nice! Plus, I have saved a ton of money not having to buy the disposables and I feel great knowing that it is green!

Actually, you aren't supposed to throw away poop. I know with diapers, most packages will say to throw the poop in the toilet before throwing out the diaper. This is because poop causes so many diseases and there is no way to treat it in a landfill like there is in the sewage systems. I would assume the same is true for dog poop :confused: I don't know how to solve the problem if your in the park though. It would be hard to carry around poop until you could find a potty :D Anyway, I flush Tucker's poop as often as possible when I can :D

this is true too. when morgan did have an accident in the house i would flush it down the toilet too. easy clean up, no left over smell.
