Honestly, I didn't spend very much time with those puppy pads...I bought this wonderful potty thing I bought (NO MORE PADS!!!) www.wizdog.com check it out, it's plastic and you put newspaper underneath no more papers shredded around the house!!!! It's tottally worth the $30 |

I've used washable pads for Bitsy since day one and never a problem. I use Pooch Pads and I bought really cute ones from Little Bit (here on YT) and I love em! I have 15 pads altogether and do a load once a week of just pee pads. I wash em with regular detergent with the bleach already in them. For the yuck factor, you could run an empty rince cycle with bleach after you wash the pads. I don't put my pads in the dryer, they dry pretty quickly on their own. I have a large garbage pail with a lid, and I fold all the used ones in four (dirty side in), place them in a garbage bag in the pail until laundry time. No smell! Aside from the pee, they don't get too yucky. When Bitsy poops, I pick it up with toilet paper and flush the poop in the toilet. Her poop is really good, it doesn't smear or anything. I change out her pads everyday. Kudos to you for going green! That's the whole reason I decided to do the washable pads in the first place. Washable pads are so great that I wish my cats would use them instead of kitty litter! Good luck! |

When Joj-Gee was a baby and then our toy fox terrier we used fake grass in a big kitty litter box that we cut the sides down on (so they could get in easy). Worked fantastic!!! Also very easy to clean and disinfect. At first we put the puppy pads in under the fake grass that had attractant smell, but after they got the hang of it, no more pads. Deb :) |
I use Little Bit's washable pads. We use it part-time inside Tucker's xpen. He won't go potty in the house unless he is inside his pen wich is helpful when I need to leave the house for longer periods of time. I love her pads, they are very absorbent and hold the smell. Mine is dark and you cannot see any pee stains anymore, wich is nice! Plus, I have saved a ton of money not having to buy the disposables and I feel great knowing that it is green! Quote:

This is probably the way I will handel this delima. I was not able to get any pads today. I am going to order them online, it is much much cheeper!!! washable puppy pads I do have one question about the washable puppy pads that another member on here brought up. Do your Yorkies know the pad from other material surfaces such as throw rugs and carpets? I sure hope they do!!!! I am so excited about being able to use the washable pads!!! I am hoping that they do know, because of location, location, location of the pad??? Any input on this subject would be very much appreciated!!!! Also, are many of you able to let your Yorkies run the house with them being totally potty trained? I am soooooooo looking forward to this day!!! with 3 Yorkies here,, and one being a puppy when i got our first washablel pads,, i just put them down where their puppy pad always is,, put the paper pad on top, and did that for weeks,, and i still have more paper pads left,, but out in a storage room,, ran out in here,, and wasnt dressed to go out and get more,, so i just left it just the washable pad,, and they used it fine,, and i also have the PiPi Dolly potty, which our newest addition will use,, surely wish i could get them all to go that way,,, but i'm happy as we are now,, with the PiPi Dolly and the washable pads,, no leakage,, no smells,, i wash them ,,dry them,, run a light (empty) washer with some bleach after washing them,, and there is no smell in my washer i think they are an awesome idea!!:) |

We've only had ONE accident on a throw rug and that was because I was dumb enough to put a throw rug down right next to the potty pad. :rolleyes: No other accidents on throw rugs after I thumped myself in the head. My older Shih Tzu has the run of the house all the time. He is 11. Coby is 1 year old and has free reign of two big rooms and two stairways. We are still in the process of enlarging his freedom. But that can only be done when we are 100% focused on watching him 100% of the time in the new rooms. My mom has been very ill for a few months, so we haven't had the needed focus. We simply avoid failure by not giving him the chance to make mistakes. That way, Coby is ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL!! :D |
