To trust or not to trust? Need HELP! Sorry.... this is going to be a long one! Nine years ago I was going through a divorce...had to sell my little girl, yorkie. The people that bought her gave me a contract that said in the future I could have a yorkie pup at no charge (male or female). It has no expiration date. I lost contact with them, searched but could not find them. I am remarried now...already have a year old Yorkie (Maggie May). I want to breed Maggie. I called a couple of vets as recommended on YT and they knew the people! Actually recommended them! I gave them a call , they remembered me! I was going to get a little male from them , but was talked out of it with all the leg hiking, etc. He said I could breed to any one of his 3 studs for 5 years as many times as I wanted. I was going to go with this, but changed my mind and now want a girl pup. They said no problem , however, limited reg. ONLY. Why? He says he sells ALL his puppies this way. They are not show quality only pet quality. Then proceeds to tell me his studs and females have bad knees, bad teeth, overbites, etc. Maybe he just wants to dissuade me because he has to give me one? What do you guys think? As of now, the puppy won't be 12 weeks til June, so I can think this through! |
Well, if they do have bad knees, teeth, etc., he shouldnt be breeding them!!!!!!!!!! and I wouldnt want one anyway. |
I don't know how I posted this thread twice...it's my first thread! LOL Thanks, I know , but I think he's just trying to get out of something! |
Ask to take the puppy you choose to the vet first for an examination. |
He mentioned giving his puppies a year health guarantee. This is why I would even consider it. No such thing as a FREE puppy if you get your heart involved and ALOT of vet bills! |
I'm assuming since you said they bought her,, you sold her with full papers? and your contract makes no mention of registration,, as to limited or full? then i'd guess its his call,, not nice i'd say,, but sounds legal bummer,, hope ya get it all worked out among yourselves :) |
He probably is selling you a limited registration because he doesn't want you breeding them. Many breeders do this. |

Maybe he is willing to sell you a pup but not a "show quality" one? Could you pay extra for full registration? But if his dogs are as poor as he says, I certainly would not want full registration anyways. Are you intending to breed her too? |
Sounds like to me he is trying to scare you away so he won't be out the puppy. Who would knowingly breed and sell puppies with those health problems? If this is the case he needs to be looked into and shut down. If you check him out and the puppies are in good health you could get a little girl, then sell or trade her to get you a male of your choice. |

Why would a vet recommend him if he didn't have healthy pups? Also, supposedly he has been approved by AKC. They have come to his place and he is o.k. |

Just wanted to say ..You are all great and I really appreciate all the advice! I wish I knew how to post pics of my little girls. I actually have two. Maggie, the year old and Kirby who will be 13 in June! |
Have you done a search on here to see if his name came up? You could post his name and see if anyone has had problems with his dogs. If his dogs truly are not healthy, I wouldn't want to breed them. I think you need to find out the answer to that first. It sounds like he's not really willing to sell you a great quality pup either, I think I would talk to him honestly and see if you get anywhere. You don't want to take a pet quality pup and start breeding it IMHO. |
Well out of the blue he called me yesterday! He said he would give me full registration, but no health guarantee. I stupidly PAID for a dog without one before and she is awesome so, I will just have to hurry her in to the vet and pray everything works out o.k. |
