My new baby!! Hello everyone. Today is a very special day for me.I finally got my precious baby Gracie!!!, she is absolutely gorgeous and I am so excited that I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight.lol :) She is still a little nervous and she refuses to come out of her crate. :( What should I do?!?! I'm a little concern  . The breeder was feeding her mighty dog food and I want to change it, but should I do it right away or should I wait a few more days to start? I also need some housebreaking tips! I want to take her outside but it a snowing a lot so what should I do? I don't want to get her out with this cold she is only 8 weeks old. AHH and one last thing she does not smell so good and I already tried the Pet & Clean wipes but it did not work is it ok to bathe her or should I wait a few more weeks? |
Hi, It is not too soon to bath your pup. you can blow dry her on cool setting. To change her food add a little of what you want to change it to with what you are feeding.start today. I would put a potty pad right by the front door and when she goes on it give her a treat. then when it warms up put pad out side and i think you'll be in business. |
congrats on youre baby..... kindness offered the same advice i would have, but to coax her out of her crate you could use a favorite toy or a treat (and you could also say the word come, so youll be training her at the same time) i wouldnt just reach into her crate and grab her because they need to feel that their crate is their "safe place" and if you just reach youre hand in there and scare her she might not feel that way about her crate anymore |
Congratulations, Marie!! I know how you must feel to finally bring Gracie home!! :) Can't wait to see pictures and get to "know" her! Be prepared for lots of fun!!! Puppy kisses from Toto!! ;) |
Congrats on the new addition! When I changed Hercules' food, I gave him 75% of the old and 25% of the new, then 50% of both, then 25% of the old and 75% of the new. When that's ok, then I just gave him all of the new food. He didn't have any bad reactions, so hopefully that will work for you!! Good luck! Brandi & Hercules |
Congratulations new Yorkie mommy! Hugs and kisses to you and baby Gracie! |
Congratulations! I would let the little baby hang out for a while, and get to know what's going on. Let her build up a little trust before you bathe her. I remember that Archie was very nervous when we first got him and he didn't leave the bedroom. We slowly encouraged him to come out a little bit to the living room, etc. by playing with him. I think it was a week or so when we gave him a bath in the tub. But we spent an enormous amount of time with him at first. On the first day, we played for an hour or so and left him in the bedroom to calm down by himself for a little while, then he was happy when we came back in. We took him out for a short 5 minute walk to get him used to the neighborhood, etc. It all depends, though, on whether you want to crate train your dog (which I am against doing), or whether you want to train your dog to go outside or use wee wee pads. Archie goes outside, so it was important to let him get to know the neighborhood and choose his "spots." |
when i got toby i pretty much let him choose me....... out of the two males he was the only one that was VERY friendly with me and not afraid or nervous at all (my house is VERY hectic and i didnt want a nervous nelly).... i dont think to this day he has EVER been nervous, i took him to my moms house the first day i got him too, and over there she has three big dogs.. lots of people moving around........craziness galore....... and he was soooooooo calm and so up for anything , i love my little guy he is really "my kind of dog".... i dont think i enjoy having a dog that was really nervous :( |
Congrats on your new baby! Great choice in a name, it's very beautiful! |
