How many of your furbabies have gotten lost? Hi everyone. I haven't been around in a while. Senior year of college is killing Louie and I. :) Anyway, about a 3 weeks ago I let Louie outside to go to the bathroom and he pretty much disappeared. It was dark outside and I am convinced that he chased something into the woods. We looked for him until about 5am. I felt extremely guilty and I woke up early and put up flyers everywhere. Someone called and said they spotted him and I walked through the woods for about an hour. Literally 5 seconds before I got in my car to go somewhere else he came out of hiding. I was so relieved that I cried all the way home. I felt, and still feel like the worst mommy ever. Needless to say I am extremely cautious about his time outside now and am going to get him micro chipped incase this ever happens again. I was just wondering, how many of you have lost your furbaby? |
I know several on here have. I would be terrified. My back yard is fenced and I stay out with him. Any other time he is on a leash. |
The only place I've ever lost mine is in the pantry and the food closet..My whole back yard is fenced in, but, they don't go out without me..glad you found your little one. |
Oh my goodness! At least you had a happy ending unlike many. |
I keep losing Cali in the house. Seems like she is always getting closed in the closet or bathroom lately. I don't let them out alone so fortunately no outdoor losses. Glad you had a happy ending. |
Smokey got out of our fence once and I went chasing him around the neighborhood trying to catch him. |
2 years ago I went Christmas caroling with my friends, and we stopped at my house so I could take the dog outside. I was trying to get his leash on when my friend opened the door for a split second and he was gone. It took us about 10 minutes to find him...he'd run down the street & around the corner to the big open field in the park...it was dark out so it was hard to see him but we caught him. and she's not ours anymore, but Maddie ran away twice. First time she was gone for 24 hours, second time for 6. |
I "lost" Tucker two days ago. I was in the backyard with my daughter and we were all playing together. My daughter started talking to me and when we were through, Tucker was gone! I have a fenced in backyard too!! I freaked out!!! My daughter and I ran into the front yard. I did not see him and we both started to cry. (yes we're a very dramatic family) I thought I was going to be sick. He has ID tags on, but that would not stop a car or a thief. Anyway I walked into my side yard and there he was hanging out. My husband built the fence a few years ago and without a yorkie in mind. When he did, he drilled holes in the yard to set the fence. He apparently drilled one that was off and had to drill again, so there is this hole, mind you a very small hole, right by the fence. Anyway, that is the only way I can figure that he got out. I didn't even know the dumb hole was there. I have since inspected the yard and put bricks by anything that looks like an escape route, but this is only a temporary fix. We will be putting chicken wire down accross the entire bottom of the fence. He's never alone outside, but now I'm afraid to take him outside into my fenced in backyard without a leash on!! |
I have a runner., and she has gotten out in a flash, no matter how well we look after her.. she can go so fast it is unreal... so far we have been lucky.. her microchip brought her home to us once.. some one picked her up and took her to the vet around the corner.. the other times we have found her.. seeing her take off.. our fencing will be changed this summer when we go home this sunmmer.. we only built it last summer.. we will put in a new back door, instead of using a side door.. No matter what we tell people they just do not get it.. |
In 20 years I've never had one get "lost", except in the house hiding. I am so anal about my dogs that they don't even go off my deck into the yard unless they are on a leash. I have had a couple escapes out the door but have always rounded them up immediately. With 5 it's hard to keep them from slipping out once in a while |
I lost one of mine for about an hour one time... he darted off the porch and was gone! I was just PO'ed at first cuz it was sooo freezing cold and I was in slippers and jammies and it was 6am.... but after about an hour of calling him I started to get SCARED! Finally he came dancing around my feet! I was soooo relieved! But he got punished by being gated into the kitchen! Im sooo careful when the door is opened, by me or anyone else... Im always like "DON'T LET THE DOGS OUT!" Those little buggers! |
Mine have never been lost thankfully. I have a fenced in front and back yard |

We have a fenced in yard so I let him out without a leash, however I normally stay out with him because of the chicken hawks. The other day he was out and taking his sweet little time so I ran in the house real quick to do something, I left the door open so I could hear him. I heard the garbage man pull up and something screamed at me that Dusty was out. I ran out as fast as I could and sure enough Dusty was at the road with the garbage truck. Thank God that when I called him he came running back. They could have picked him up so easy and took him if I had not ran out there. |
I too have a runner. And man is she fast.....the more you chase her and call Suki..........the faster she runs. The only way you can get her is my husband gets on the harley and drives past her so she sees him. She usually goes right to him (she likes riding) The closest weve come to losing one was when we went camping. It was dark and we went to the hot tub. Came back and we were missing Cricket. Oh man, we were running around like crazy. Turned out our fifth wheel has a separate garage, the door was not latched and she pushed her way in and the door closed behind her. She was just sitting there with this weird look on her face like whats all the commotion about? And Shilo, my husbands shadow....one day we heard her barking, but couldnt find her. Then the barking stopped. We were freaking out thinking she followed my husband out to the barbque and somehow slipped out of the yard, (the barking sounded like it was coming from the front of the house), my husband was white as a ghost by now. He was headed out front, and I just happened to open the closet pantry, there she was, and the funny thing is it has a frosted glass so she probably saw us pass it 500 times and not a peep. Hubby had opened it to pour a drink from the bar, and the shadow she is, he must of closed her in. I feel so bad for those who have trully lost them. Just these scares were more than enough for us. |
