over protective are any of you out there over protective with your babies? I mean, I have Gidget at work with me and one of my supervisors just came in and scooped her up and was headed out the door, I said whoa....where do you think your going? She said oh to show Celia. I said no I dont want her to leave my office. I feel like a bitch but she's pretty squirmy and I am not taking chances of someone holding her and not knowing how to hold a tiny squirmy little monster and letting her get dropped. Ive been that way with all my dogs, am I being too parinoid? Too bitchy? |
i'd be the same way... i think a lot of ppl on here would... no one gets to hold belle except a select few... |
I don't believe you can be over-protective of our little babies. That's just a word people use when they are trying to manipulate us. It's your job to protect you baby in any way you see fit. I agree with you, yorkies can be very squirmy and you have to know how to hold them. On a side note, Joey's breeder suggested always holding one paw when they were in my arms, and she made me promise that I would never allow any children to hold him. So you are not over-protective, just protective, and bitchy? . . . .I guess they would depend on how you told her "no." I'll bet stedmansmommy can say, "no" in a non-bitchy way. |
Yes, I am overprotective. I don't like anyone just picking up Lucy. |
If people would just have some manners and ask before grabbing or touching it wouldn't put us in the position to be the "Big B." ;) ..... |
I don't like people holding Murfee. I think it was very rude of her not to ask first:eek: |
especially little kids!! omg, i had a situation like this that almost got me into a fight... i was at a festival walking Kash on a leash, and this little boy (no older than 4) was running passed me... and as soon as he saw Kash, he stopped in his tracks, and just picked my puppy up without asking or anything... (remember this boy is very young!) as soon as the boy did this, i politely said, "no, no" and took Kash away from him... when i did this, his mom (who was walking a distance behind her son) said to someone she was walking with (but loud enough for me to hear), "did you see how she just snatched her dog away from him like he was going to hurt the dog? calm down!" i didn't say anything, but i wanted to tell her she should teach her son some manners. you (young or old) can't just run up to a stranger's dog and pick it up, especially a tiny yorkie. it's one thing for an adult that you know to do it, but a 4 year old boy that you've never seen in your life is another! i almost had a heart attack thinking he would drop Kash. anyway, i think about that moment sometimes and wish i had said something to the boy's mom. it wasn't the boy's fault after all. his mom just didn't teach him not to do things like that. i mean, our yorkies (or any dog for that matter) are like our children. how would she like it if i saw her son, and then ran and picked him up?? she'd be like, "who are you? and why are you picking up my son??" lol!! anyway, just thought i'd share! |
i so agree... plus i'm surprised that mom didn't react to the fact that he picked up a stranger's dog, for all she knows your pup could have been aggressive toward kids, or just startled and snapped... then she would've been whinning bc the dog reacted like a dog... people have no common sense |
exactly. Actually I like for people to interact with my dogs. Its good for them, its just unless they know dogs, they dont know how quickly they squirm in the opposite direction and in a blink of an eye, theyve fallen. I am fortunate in that I have my own office and all of my dogs have spent at least the first year of their life with me here. We are a veterans home, so the old guys just love coming in to see the dogs. Once each is a year old, I usually take turns, and my veterans all have their favorite dog. Suki actually was made into a character in one of the veterans books about dogs. (children's book) She was the secretary that all the boy dogs were hot for. Too funny. |
naaah you are not overprotective - you are a good mommy who worries about her baby :D i refuse to let people hold my kids either ... unless they are at the vet ... even then i am RIGHT there "just in case" ;) lol |
i cant believe she just scooped her up like that and ran off with her!! how rude! this same thing happened to me at the vet. the vet techs kept coming in and saying "give me her" and im thinking they are taking her in the back to weigh her or take her temperature or something but then i hear them going OMG so-and-SO come see this little one! i want to take her home! and then they were passing her along between them like some stuffed animal. SO RUDE. i really wanted to slap someone. next time ill know better I dont think you are overprotective though.. I really dont even like it when my friends hold her.. i just feel like "youre not holding her right, give me her before you drop her and kill her!" |
I am always telling my dtr not to carry the dogs around the house as they could jump out of her arms as she cradles them in her arms, which I don't feel secure with. She's 22 years old LOL I also tell all the vets or techs, that they are squirmers eve if ther aren't becasue I now how fast they can leap out of your arms. |
if it's someone i know i would be fine, it's good for them socially but a stranger NO WAY and never a child without my help. |
I just can't believe someone would do that. If I see a beautiful dog I stop and ask about it and then say can I pet him/her? I NEVER ask to hold their dog because I don't want anyone holding mine. After my knee surgery I couldn't take my 2 dogs walking and a friend of mine is a dog trainer as well as showing dogs, she is a real dog woman and she took them walking and they really love her. I trust her completely but I swear the whole time they were gone I was praying they would come back safely. I just don't trust anyone with my dogs and I mean anyone. People say I am too crazy about my yorkies but I say you can't be to crazy about them. I don't have any skin kids so these are my children and I love them dearly. How can that be bad? |

My thing is if I were to drop Lily(pray this never happens) I have no one to be mad at but myself if someone else were to drop her (even though it may not be their fault) I would still be some what angry at that person and if she were to get hurt it would be a complicated situation. I let Lily interact with a lot of people but there are very few who I trust to pick her up. She is so wiggly I even hate to hold her at times and most people just do not expect her to be so wiggly. |
