Bad Dog Food My husband and I have been feeding our babies Euk. because Purina, Pedigree, Science diet, and others gave them diarrhea. Now I find out that Euk. is no bueno either! My husband will not let me throw away more food and switch brands any time soon, as I already put him though a lot with all of my other reject brands... would it help if I cooked up some chicken and tossed that in the mix to make it more meaty? I can probably switch them once we run out of all the Euk we have, but we cant afford to waste at this time... also I am aware (now) that Euk is a stinky company. |
I would advise switching to a better brand. I'd suggest trying Canidae or Chicken Soup. If your dog continues being sick on Eukanuba and you have to visit a vet, you could be spending more money at the vet than you spent on the one bag of dog food. ETA: Dehydration is something to be taken very seriously in toy breeds, especially puppies. |
Me also. Can't buy anymore dog food. Tried them all. The Innova EVO canned that I tried to switch too really gave Tricksie the poops. She will not just eat kibble. So I am sticking with her dry Innova Evo and bought cans of green beans, diced potatoes, carrots, and sweet peas, without salt, and mix it with a tablespoon of wet Pedigree. She seems to do fine with this. She loves the veggies. Of course, I heat it in the micro. |
Research your dog food choices on http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com That should help clear things up for you and help you feel better about the food choices that you make. |
That website, along with Yorkie Talk, actually helped me to realize I had chosen the wrong food. What I meant to say is that my dogs are doing great on Eukanuba, but if it is bad for them thenI plan to one day switch... I am bummed it was rated so low... it seemed like it was really working out, and I actually thought I was feeding them a high-quality food. Does eating the lower quality foods reduce lifespan or make dogs more prone to problems? |

Look for a Pet Food Store in your area. They will give you samples of foods to try for free so you won't have to waste so much food. If you don't have a store in your area that sells the brands you would like to try, Call or email companies, they will send you samples & coupons. Also with your unused pet foods. Don't throw them out. Donate them to your local animal shelters. They are always looking for donated items. Toys, beds, bowls, food, etc. |
Petco and Petsmart usually don't have the higher quaility foods. See if you can find a smaller privately owned shop- I had much better luck there. Also when you do switch foods are you mixing it more and more with the new kind for about a week before switching over completly? If you switch too fast that can cause diarrhea and in that case I think some boiled chicken and rice might help. |

Thank you that is relieving. IDK if I can go through daily diarrhea again! I was switching them over gradually... it was the food I think. My babies, especially my Yorkie, Bear, are high maintenance! Thanks everyone for the different points of view. |
I mix Chicken Soup Puppy with Taste of the Wild (game fowl kind). I have never had a problem with chicken soup for 4 years and none the the addition of the other for 3 months. If I do need to mix with canned, I use Pedigree chicken and rice dinner. I only use canned mix with young puppies and pregnant/whelping/nursing moms. |
