Rude People Well I had read about other people's run in with rude people while they had their baby's out with well and it happened to me this weekend. I took my Ozzy to Best Buy Sunday to buy a battery and the people who work there were great. They loved him and didn't give me a hard time about him being in the store. I even had him walking on his leash. (for 14 weeks he is so awesome on the leash..stays right beside me) So anyway we are waiting in the cashier line and he is standing there so cute and quiet and the people in the line are all saying how sweet he is and this cow says "oh Yorkies they are cute until they turn into yappers." I was so mad. My Ozzy IS NOT A YAPPER. I was like "My dog does not yap thank you very much. He is a really sweet boy!" and I walked away to the cashier. It got me so mad. I never say to people with skin babies..."Oh babies are cute until they turn into screaming children"..I'd never say that to anyone so why would people feel they can say bad things about my baby? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I do give a  to Best Buy though...for letting me bring my baby in. |
People are ignorant...........I think sometimes they feel like they have to say something negative! Maybe it makes them feel better. You are right about the screaming children.........LOL!!!! |

WHOA MOM Chill......you should just look over folks like her....she probably wants one and can't afford it. |
Some folks just do not think before they speak. Let it roll... |
That kind of thing does make a person angry Just consider where it came from. She's just jealous you got the attention she should have gotten;) After all your baby is a terrier and terriers bark a little or sometimes a lot, that's the way they warn us that someting is happening.:animal36 |
I can't stand when people say that! But I want to punch the people that say "that's not a dog, that's a rat!". eeerrrrrrrrrrr! |

I do not think I have ever had a mean hateful thing said about Jeter when I have had him out. People are alway's nice and he loves the attention they give him.The only thing I get asked is if he is a teacup, wich I will gladly tell them all about a teacup;) If someone did say something hateful and stupid like "Oh that is not a dog, it's a rat", I would put my nose up in the air and act as if I hear nothing. Somethings are not worth getting upset about. When my #2 son was a baby he had to be fed by a tube feeding, it was a Micky button that was in his little belly, he was so small and sickly. At his normal Ped office I had another mother that was their for a well baby visit ask me if I ever feed my baby! this was after she had asked how old he was she was thinking he was 3 or 4 months old instead of being 9 months. I wanted to scream at her or cry, if she only knew the heartache I had over him trying to get his medical situation under control... So instead of yelling or crying, I unbuttoned his outfit and showed her his Micky button and I said, "Be thankful your child is healthy and can take a bottle the normal way!" She felt so bad when she found out how sick my baby was. |
I have a hearing problem and I appreciate my little "yapper" letting me know if someone is at the door or just walking by. I was in a pet store with my daughter and I accidentally let slip as a pug puppy was near - "They are so cute when they are puppies". My daughter poked me to indicate that I was actually insulting the breed. I guess having Yorkies my whole life has got me used to "forever cute"!!! |
LOL 'Cow' :p |
Aw don't let that lady get to you. She obviously has never had the love of owning a yorkie. I noticed that a lot of people who never owned small dogs or yorkies think that they are yappers. And if she had to be that rude for no reason, she probably has never had any sort of love |
I kinda know where this lady is coming from though.. She probably has a neighbor that owns one.. My Riddick barks at anything.. If he hears me sneeze, he starts to bark, I walk out of my room, he'll bark. etc.. etc.. I get annoyed with him at times.. Mischa on the other hand doesn't bark all that much.. I pray it stays that way.. I need Cesar Millan to come and stop Riddick from barking at everything and Anything.. This lady of course had no right to voice her opinion about your baby... As not all Yorkies are yappers.. Your little one is adorable..:p |

Well... personally I dont think that it was all that rude of a comment...imo. I mean, for the most part, small dogs can be barkers/yappers... And though yours isnt, was she really being "mean hearted" in saying that? #1 - your baby is only 14 wks, and still has yet to develop its personality... they do seem to get to a point that they want to communicate more with you and for dogs thats barking... #2 - jmo, but i would be VERY concerned or rather careful taking my 14 wk old into public places on a leash?!? I ALWAYS hold Meka when we are in a store... what if someone stepped on him? or merchandise fell on him? Or what if he has to relieve himself??? I think walking a dog through a store..is a big reason why so many stores (with food or not) are not pet friendly anymore... If your dog is not in a carrier, in your arms or in a stroller...it probably shouldnt be in the store.... Just prepare yourself, because you will get lots more comments when out with your pup... and much worse than that... I try to ignore em and move on... What can you do?!? :) |
Most yorkies are yappy so she might not have been trying to be rude. My two are very yappy |
I disagree with you MIZBROWN. Puppies have personalities. They start to develop them well in advance of 14 weeks. By 6 weeks (or even earlier)you can tell the status of your puppy in the pack and can see who is shy and introverted and who is outgoing. I am very conscious of his behavior and constantly work with him with his training to prevent him from barking excessively. I understand that he has a lot of changes to go through but the foundation of his personality is there. He has had 2 sets of vaccines and goes for his 3rd in 4 days. He has been going to Doggie daycare since he was 12 weeks old. Some may disagree but I feel sheltering them to much isn't a good thing, but totally understand that some folks wouldn't feel the same. He is hardly and very healthy so I let him walk everywhere. I guess it's just an individual choice. I would never have let him walk around if the Best Buy folks hadn't said it was ok, I'm really paranoid about not offending people or causing a scene. :) I guess I need to focus more on all the nice comments from people on the street then let the negatives get to me  |
Like my mama always taught me,, Consider The Source!!! or Forrest Gump, "Stupid is as Stupid does!" i think people like that are just jealous,,,:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
Fortunately, I have never had anyone say anything rude about Murfee...at least in hearing distance of me. Now my kids love to call him hamster boy..but just to irritate me. I always carry him when I am around people though 'cause I don't trust people not to step on him or try to pick him up. |
some people does not think before they open their mouths, i get alot of rude comments about rocky and trixiebell,, mostly about how big they are both are 7 pounds but most people who say rude things think they should be tea cups size. i'm getting sick of the comments:( |
Sounds like that rude lady was the one with the Yapping problem! |

I don't think MIZZBROWN was suggesting that you puppy had no personality at 14 weeks; I think she was saying, as they get older they will communicate with you more and this is barking. I don't think Joey barked much before 4 months. I remember the first time I heard it; I thought it was so cute!! Those were the days! Also, about walking in a store with a small puppy, it is dangerous; they haven't yet learned to get out of the way. I think Yorkies are cute even when they are yapping. |
Some people just don't know when to keep their comments to themselves. I was talking to a lady on Saturday who is a toy breed judge who also is a Maltese breeder and my 5 year old told her that I really want a yorkie. This lady said, " oh really? Well, Yorkies are ankle biters. " I really had to bite My Lip!! I didn't think that was very professional of her but see, even a 30 year veteran can't keep her yap shut. |

I think almost anyone on this site would agree that their pup has changed quite a bit since 14 wks of age  but, hey... I could be wrong ;) Have a great day :) |
