I am a Mommy Hey guys, I'm a Mommy :p Get my baby today :) I didn't get it from the breeder who had the tiny yorkie; I found another breeder that I was so much more happy with. 'Tia' is not a tiny; I will weigh her on the kitchen scales inabit when she wakes up... The breeder guessed she was about 2lbs, she's 8 weeks so I guess she will be a teapot???? Here's her story: Me and my bf went to have a look at 'Tia'; there were 2 boys left and tia from a 4 part litter. I didn't get to see one of the boys as he was upstairs (he was already claimed for). 'Tia' was shy, reserved, I didn't think she liked me very much because she couldn't stand to held by me for more than a few seconds :( Her brother was the 'joker' of the pair, he was running up and down, tail wagging being really cheeky :p whether 'Tia' was more laid back. Anyway we brought her, took her to the car, and because of traffic the 30min journey took about 2 hours; which I think was God giving me and T time to bond; because now (were at home) she doesn't want to be anywhere else other than in my lap as she is now (sleeping); if I put her down she tries to climb up my leg to get to my chest so I can hold her lol. I have a few questions: when we took her from the car then introduced her to our home she was shaking and seemed really scared; she found the smallest space and hid, observing everything with her eyes only. Is this normal? She's ok now, shes fast asleep on my lap as I type. Also; she last ate at 12pm (UK time) the breeder said her next feed should be about 4pm-5pm we gave her the food the breeder gave us; she only picked at; didn't eat much at all. I particularly wanted her to drink some water but she didn't touch the water at all. Is this normal? Shall I feed her some water from a bottle!? So that she gets some in her system!? Also the breeder has her on some (cheap, supermarket, tinned wet food -lamb and rice and beef and rice); I want to get her onto eukamba (sp) I will gradually get her used to it - is dry food better for her or wet. What are the pros and cons of each. I know dry food is good for the teeth; but are the other pros? Once she woken up i'll take some pics and try and figure out how to post them here. |
I am so glad you finally got your baby. I am sure that she will settle in soon. Sounds like she is just a bit overwhelmed by her new surroundings. I free fed Murfee from the very beginning. He is still in the dry dog food and he is 4 years old. Good luck. I am sure you will do fine...and get lots of good advice from your fellow yt'ers. |
eta: I say Tia with inverted commas because my bf thinks Tia is too realist a name for a dog  he thinks I should go for CoCo (My previous choice) but 'Tia' is some reserved and quiet such like you would think a Tia would be lol; I think CoCo would be better for a more playful pup What do you guys think? |
Congratulations on your baby. It may take her a couple of days to get used to her new surroundings. Remember this is the first time away from her littler mates so everything has to be very strange for her. Let her know where the water is and when she's thirsty she'll drink. There are so many great brands of kibble on the market. Canidae, Wellness, Chicken Soup, Natural Balance. The kibble can be mixed with a wet food. I did this with Buddy when he was a pup and when he went to Adult food I stopped the wet,. Make sure you get a kibble that is very small and made for a puppy. There are other's here who can guide you better I'm sure. Just wanted to wish you good luck. |
Congrats on your new addition!!! How exciting. Bailey was 1.8 at 9 weeks - now she is 5.1 lbs - the perfect size for us. With all the recent changes, I wouldn't change her food for a while. As far as Bailey - I couldn't get her to eat dry or canned food for the longest time. So, at the advice of my mom, I switched to a raw diet. Bailey just loves it. I know its not for everyone. A little heads up - the next few months will be filled with love and anxiety. You'll have diet, potty training, and training in general to get through. I'll admit there were a few moments that I wasn't sure I was going to make it - but now, I am so overwhelmed with love - I can't believe there was perfect yorkie just for me and that I found her. :aimeeyork BTW - I like Tia much better than CoCo. Tia sounds small fragile and beautiful. |
Congrats on your new baby. It took mine a couple days to get used to being at my house |
Congrats on your new addition!!! How exciting. Bailey was 1.8 at 9 weeks - now she is 5.1 lbs - the perfect size for us. Bailey's a new name for a girl ;) 5lbs would have been a perfect size for me too; but I fell in love with Tia; so I guess I'll just have to wait and see how see turns out :p With all the recent changes, I wouldn't change her food for a while. As far as Bailey - I couldn't get her to eat dry or canned food for the longest time. So, at the advice of my mom, I switched to a raw diet. Bailey just loves it. I know its not for everyone. Tia is now offical lol
...................... |
Congrats on your new furbaby, I'm sure she'll be just fine, she just needs some time to adjust to all the changes. I LOVE the name Tia, seems so much more fitting for her by the way you described her personality. My sister has a lil boy yorkie names Coco and he's a wild one let me tell ya, lol. When we got Maggy May, she was 6 weeks old and in real bad shape. I fed her dry kibble but added some water and let it soak till it got nice and soft. By the time she was 9 weeks old, I didn't have to mix water with it anymore, she could chew it on her own. I feed her Wellness Just For Puppies (They are switching the name to Wellness Super 5 Mix and the pieces are small, just the right size. Oh, one thing I do want to mention, when I was adding water to her kibble, she didn't drink water hardly AT ALL. I would take and suck water up in a syringe and give it to her though just because I wanted to make sure she was getting enough water. I talked to the vet about her not drinking water and he said, as long as I was mixing the water into her kibble, she was fine, that was normal, but once I stopped adding water to her kibble, she'd start drinking water on her own, he was right, she did just that. |
Tucker was really scared for the first few days too. I held him constantly! Enjoy it while you can. Tucker is more independent now and I miss those cuddly days. |
How exciting for you. I think Tia is a perfect name. I'm sure she's a little overwhelmed at the moment. It will just take some time for her to adjust to her new home and her new Mommie! |
Yea,!!! So it kind of sounds like Tia, is going to be a MOMMY'S girl!!! Can't wait to see some pictures of your new girl!! |
All of my Yorkies eat Canidae. You can order it online or find it in pet stores not petsmart...It is a holistic doggie food that is great. My dogs have never had any allergy problems. I also have a rescue Scottie and a Westie. They are proned to having skin problems..Its really all about what they eat.... |
Congrats on your new baby. I think Tia is a beautiful name! |
2 lbs at 8 weeks doesn't necessarily mean a teapot at all. A "guide" to adult weight is to multiply the 8 week weight by 3 or 12 week weight by 2, so if she is 2 lbs now, that only makes her 6 lbs as an adult. Perfect!:p Of course, nothing is guaranteed, it also depends on the weight of her parents and ancestors, or just a fluke that could make her a teapot....or stay super tiny for that matter. But, sounds to me like she might be a good standard yorkie size. Congratulations.........BTW, I like the name Tia better also. Oh, and welcome to Yorkie Talk.........it's a great place to learn lots of yorkie info. |
Congratulations on our new baby!! I like her name Tia, it cute.:) Welcome to YT!! |
