1.5-2 lbs @8 wks If a puppy is approx. 1.5 -2 lbs at 8 weeks i triple it right? so she will be around 6 lbs full grown. Does this little rule work most of the time or is it just a "old puppy tale"? Thanks courtney |
It's not totally accurate all of the time, but not always far off either. My Higgins weighed 1 lb 10 oz at 8 weeks. His mom weighed 10 lbs and his dad about 5 lbs. The vet thought he would top out around 8 lbs. He is now a year old and 6.5 lbs of good solid muscle. |
There are never any real guarantee's, but your guestimate sounds pretty close. There will always be the exception. I had siblings and they were 1 pound 6 ounce each at 8 weeks, and now they are female is just a little over 5 pounds, and male is just a little under 9 pounds. |
this is what I've heard I've heard that in general for yorkies, that @ 8 weeks, you take their weight, double it and then 1/2 of what they weigh. So, if a yorkie weighs 2 lbs @ 8 weeks, then you double the 2 (2 times 2) and add 1 1 lb (which is 1/2 of 2) and you should have a good reading on weight. |
