How many Yorkies is too many? I currently have 4 Yorkies and 1 baby yorkie (6wks old). One of my females, Millie, will soon go to live with my daughter (because she fights so horribly with my other female, Maggie). So then I will have 3 and the baby. The baby is Millie's puppy, a baby boy--only surviver of her litter. I really want to keep the baby--but that would bring me back up to 4 Yorkies. My oldest daughter says that I need to sell the baby. She says I have too many Yorkies. If I keep him, I would have 3 boys and a girl. One of the boys has been neutered. And the other boy is the father of the puppy. So is it possible to have too many? This puppy is soooo cute! And I have been through so much with him! Thanks for the input. Linda Mom of Millie, Maggie, Miles, and Max and baby |
I don't think 4 is too many.. a few people on here have over that amount and love it... I know I would |
That's a baaaaddd question to ask me...lol I have 9 yorkies and 5 new puppies right now, and my kitty Lily. :D I don't think you can ever have too many yorkies...;) |
too many That's the way I feel! I don't think 4 is too many! I love them all so much! I'm pretty sure that I'm going to keep the baby. He is the first baby I have watched from birth. I think he is going to be really pretty with a great coat. His mother, Millie, has a wonderful coat. She's about 4.5 to 5 pounds. His father, Miles, is only about 3 pounds. I'm not sure how Miles' coat is going to turn out--he is only 1 year old. But this puppy has a thick coat right now. Thanks! |
I don't think you can ever have enough:D I have 3 and still want more but have to wait till i move:rolleyes: |
Too many? You have come to thre right place if you are looking for YT members to support you by saying,"you can never have too many" I know I would have as many as possible. However, do I have room ,time, finances, emergency funds for Vet. We all know how expensive Yorkie's can be if cared for in all aspects. I spend 24/7 keeping up with one Yorkie puppy. Maybe, ask what is the best thing for the Yorkies and let your better sense guide you. I see such beautiful and too cute Yorkies on YT, and have to have a serious reality talk to not run out and buy another one. We all know chances are ,you have made up your mind to keep puppy.... so just love , and take care of the baby. |
I think that's only something you can truly answer yourself. In finding your answer, ask yourself: 1. Can you financially afford to take care of them? 2. Do you have the time to spend with them & give them the love & attention they need & be a responsible owner? 3. Do you have room for them? 4. Do you own your own home, if not, will your landlord allow you to have that many? Ask yourself these questions, be honest with yourself, if you can do that, you will find the answer in your heart. |
I think 4 is a perfect number!! |
I have 3 yorkies right now....going on (shopping for) our fourth. That will be our limit, not because 4, 5, or more would be to many for me, but just because of our house size, city laws, etc. Under the right conditions, I agree that I could NEVER have to many yorkies. LOVE THEM TO DEATH!:D As for you.....sounds to me like 4 yorkies is to many for your daughter; not for you. So go with you heart on the puppy you want to keep and what you feel is too many yorkies for you.:p |
I think 4 is a great # but I didnt stop there:) the last little guy was unexpected, But Like i always say to my DH..Whats one more:p Its alot of work though , But the pay off is soooo worth it:D :D Good luck:) |
i have two right now, but is in search of another one. :D |
I dont think 4 is too many |
Too many I own my own home. I have a large home on 30 acres with a large fenced yard. I do have the finances to care for them. And time? who has enough? I do work full-time but my hours are 8-4 or 7:30 to 3:30. I'm an NP in schol-based health care so I only work when school is in session. I am off during holidays and the summer. And of course now, recovering from the 2 surgeries from Millie's bite. :( I will go back to work in about a week for a few days--then I'll be out 1 week for Easter. :D So I think I can do it! Thanks. What? There's such a thing as too many? I think not!! |
i think when you get so many that you can't give them the daily care, brushing and etc that they require, it is too many. That will differ for everyone. I have six adults and babies on the way and it is a real chore sometimes. |

I have 4 (just added #4 Friday)... If I'm considering the possibility of another one, I always wait until the last one added is 100% pee pad trained.. My schedule basically consists of intense grooming/bathing and cleaning up on Sundays.. litterbox, bathing/grooming, swiffering/vaccuming the floors, nail clipping, hair trimming (pads, paws, ears, etc).. All on Sundays... Throughout the week I brush them at night and in the mornings.. I don't think having four is too much... Bf wants his own baby girl (everyone is a mama's baby) but I don't foresee that happening quite yet! lol |
i've got 5.. haha i think that is the limit. i don't know if i could handle anymore.. but 4 is no problem! |

Personal opiniion is: too many is how ever many you cannot financially care for and how ever many you cannot give equal love, care and attention to. So whatever that number is, depends on your circumstances. :) :) |

I don't think 4 is too many at all, if it's not a problem for you to give all the love and care for all of them. I would go for it.:D |
It sounds like 4 is not to many for your household.... I have my two boys and am keeping my daughters two girls while she is in the hospital....She will be there hopefully 10 -12 weeks.....It was really hard at first...But the girls are adjusting and fitting into our routine beautifully...So four is working out okay here.... I don't think 4 is too many has long you can take care of them - I have only one .... plus a germand sheppard, a sitzu and an African gray and a Senegal parrot.... there are more animals in my house then human!!! :D |
I have two yorkies, but i would like another one. However, we wont get one until we move - but that is only if we get a house. If we end up sticking to a condo, then we'll just keep the two. I think it all depends on your situation. Do you feel 'harried' ....ie. like you dont have enough time with them, or if you are running around for them too much? If there is any discomfort or stress, then you are probably at your limit. The fact that your daughter is saying you have too many probably means that she sees some sort of stress somewhere and is therefore commenting that you have too many. Though, she could also be sayiing that because having so many is not a 'common' thing. You just have to see if you have it within your means to fulfill the needs of another yorkie. Though, i once heard that once you have three, the fourth, or fifth goes unnoticeable.. but thats just something i've heard........ |
I was in your shoes not to long ago! Rocky and Baby had a litter of 3. I fell in love with one of the males and I just could not part with him. So I ended up keeping him and now I have 4. I will admit that times I wonder if I made the right decision. I love all 4 of my fur babies so much and could not imagine not having them. We love to go camping and I just have no idea how I'm going to manage with all 4 this summer! |
I don't think 4 is to many. I have 2 right now and would love to have another Yorkie. :aimeeyork :yorkiesar |
