Be careful what you wish for! I posted a while ago that Brutus NEVER barked unless I got him all crazy when I played with him. Well in the last couple of weeks all that has changed! He's finally barking when the doorbell rings and when he hears something outside but he's also barking when one of my kids comes downstairs and he doesn't see them, when the cat appears and I took him to Petco on Saturday and he was growling and barking at EVERY dog there! I was like take it easy killer but I don't think anyone else was amused! I had to pick him up so he would calm down! We're probably banned from Petco! He's not at all yappy but going from never barking to the world's greatest watchdog in a matter iof weeks is shocking! |
I too have a paranoid baby. Maggie growls and barks, while watching the hallway. I guess we have ghosts. In the middle of the night she will start growling. She can hear a frog poot outside and get to growling. I don't know to tell her to hush or call 911. |
Maximus will growl and bark if we are walking and I don't allow him to bound over to the other dog and/or person...lol..he can't contain his excitement but he also doesn't realize that some dogs aren't that nice and will hurt him :( ...and some people aren't that nice and don't want to be bothered with him (this he takes very personally)...lol!!..I found that it is best to hols him in a situation where he will be seeing lots of other dogs (store environment) because he doesn't make a peep. |
Yorkies can be really good barkers sometimes :) |

that's pretty funny about Brutus - you'll learn ALL his different barks and he may settle down - they seem to fall in love with their own voices for a while when they're young. |
Simon is still in love with his own voice! He even barks in his sleep ;) lucky me! Sometimes he'll be standing in the hallway and just bark at nothing. Usually only one or two little barks, I always ask him if he's just making sure his barker still works ;) Hence the nickname Barky Barkerson! And didn't I tell you how lucky you were that Brutus didn't bark? hehe |

Logan only barks when he wants something. If he wants up on the couch he barks. Or if he wants the cat to run so he can chase her he barks (doesn't work though the cat just sits there and hisses). So we have hours of dog barking cat hissing confrontation until we seperate them. I wish they just kick the crap out of each other and get it over with. He does the same thing with my moms big dogs, he barks and bites at them so they'll run away or until they growl or nip at him and then he comes and hides behind me. but i've yet to see him bark at nothing or for no reason. |

Coco hasn't started yet. She only barks if she hears something at night while we sleep (which I don't discourage for safety reasons). My nighttime protector is always alert. However during the day, or at the park, not a peep. Once or twice she's barked or growled at my feet when I dangle them from the bed, but when she barks I look her straight in the eyes and say NO until she backs down. So she knows protective barking is ok, annoying mom is not. She's about 5 months now. |
Rika is very quiet for a Yorkie. She only barks sometimes if Cailee (my bigger dog) starts barking. Or if she wants something she can't have she'll bark and whine and cry for it. Sorry to hear about your boy. Do some training quick before it becomes a habit. |
