this may be a very stupid question... ..but, i was thinking, for a play pen for a 8 week yr old yorkie, si it possible to use a human baby play pen? or should i just go buy one thats made especially for dogs..or does it even matter?? |
I still use a human playpen for Rika. I bought a pack and play when I first got her at 6 weeks old. It's very safe and convenient! :) |
oh its a great idea. thats what our breeder used and lots of people on here use them too. we were going to but changed our minds. good luck! |
I found one in Walmart for $35.00 and it was a great size - though Cheri ended up sleeping with me - It was a great place to have her when I first got her - |
I bought one at a garage sale for $10.00. I figured a few stains wouldn't be that bad for a dog. We took it on vacation with us; it was great. They do make them for dogs though which I think might be a bit safer. The mesh on the playpen always seemed to be an issue; they get their nails stuck sometimes. At least mine did. Just a thought. |
MY BABY IS ALMOST 8 WEEKS AND SHE LOVES HER PLAY PEN. I PUT A WEE PAD AT ONE END AND BLANKET AND TOYS AT THE OTHER. SHE DOES GREAT...ALWAYS GOES TO THE PAD. I HAVE PADS ON THE FLOOR ALSO...SOMETIMES SHE MISSES THE PAD AND OTHER TIMES SHE FORGETS AND JUST GOES!!!!!! COULD I BE CONFUSING HER BY PUTTING THE PAD IN THE PLAY PEN. WITH MESH ON THE SIDES OF THE PEN, YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO BE THERE TO WATCH HER.....SHE COULD GET HER LITTLE NAILS CAUGHT!!! AT NIGHT I PUT HER IN HER CRATE....SHE LOVES IT. ONLY ONE ACCIDENT.....I DIDN'T HEAR HER CRY :( LILLISSY, HOW MUCH DOES YOUR BABY WEIGH? CHLOE WEIGHS ABOUT 1.8 LBS. I WILL BE POSTING BABY PICS VERY SOON. HAVE YOU POSTED PICS YET. I CAN'T REMEMBER...ALL OF OUR BABIES ARE SO BEAUTIFUL. JOY, NIKKI :animal-sm AND CHLOE ROSE :rose: |
well, heres the thing ( i'm only 15..) but for my BD i'm getting a yorkie, but since my BD is aug 27 & i go back to school aug 1, i am getting her early! (on wed or th!!) my dad is paying for her tonight when he gets home after dinner, and we have talked to the breeder on the phone already. all i know is that she is 8 weeks old, and isn't going to grow much over 6 lbs aprox. her mom was 6 lbs and dad was 5. so technically she isnt MINE until we pay for her..but i still am calling her mine!! today i am "puppy proofing" my room & making sure there isnt anything out that she can destroy (like my new slippers!) & making sure there is nothing she could eat or choke on around. then after that my mom is taking me shopping at petsmart, petco, target, and walmart! i know i will find alot of stuff to spoil her with!! My neighbor has 3 boys who are 10, 6, & 4, & i think they have a playpen (human play pen) or something i can use, i know they will lend it to me for my new lil girl!! so i might not have to go buy one. I dont know how much she weighs yet, but i wrote a list of questions to ask the breeder tonight when we call her back again and thats on the list!! here's her headshot and the breeder is sending me more full body pics later tonight!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...iegirls175.jpg |
She's so cute! congratulations!! |
As far as I know, human play pens are fine. :p |

Since I didn't have either when we got Maggie, I decided on the exercise pen from Petsmart. I can shape it several different ways. It is easy to move and folds up when not in use. |
Just be careful and watch her for awhile to see if she can climb on it. Depends on the sides of the playpen. If she is a climber, she could climb and fall out and hurt herself. Also, don't buy her any stuffed toys with glass eyes. She could choke on them. Enjoy your new bundle of love... :p |
In regard to toys, I have found that most human infant toys are great for puppies. They are already "child proof". A great one to get is a little stuffed animal that has the rubbery shapes for hands and feet (for a human baby to teethe on). You will not want to get her raw hide. Nylabone is a safe one. Wishing you years of happiness with your new puppy! If you do get the playpen and it has mesh sides, just tap with one finger where the puppy puts her paws while standing up and tell her "no, no". When she puts her paws back down pet her and tell her what a good girl she is. :D |
Your little girl is so cute. I can imagine how excited you are to get her. |
I use a baby play pen for Romeo...works well when I have to step away for an hour or two. |
SHE IS SO PRETTY. DO YOU HAVE A NAME YET? WHAT A SWEETIE!! LET ME KNOW HER BIRTHDAY. I THINK OUR BABES ARE VERY CLOSE IN AGE!!! JOY, NIKKI :animal-sm AND CHLOE ROSE :rose: |
