There seems to be a correlation between AKC registered dogs bringing a higher price than those registered with other organizations. One would assume there was a reason most people seek AKC registration over the others that are available. If you are just looking for a pet, then it really would not matter about the registration, but if you were wanting to show or breed, then it does matter. When I refer to “breed” I am indicating a reputable breeder, not a puppy mill, or any of the other indiscriminate people that just breed to make money, and are not doing their best to keep the integrity of the breed. Diva pup…I thought your guide lines and definitions were right on target! |

What great definitions!!!! Those definitions seem to be very clear. |
Thanks for all your replys. Skippy is going to be a pet and is being neutered, so the general concession is if I'm not showing or breeding him it doesn't matter. I really appreciate all your input. |

I thought it was interesting that you post the same thing a week later in response to my question. I asked the question because people did not accept those definitions or felt they were confusing or whatever. I pasted the entire article and gave credit to the author because I thought we were supposed to cite our references on here. That's all. |
I actually don't think the wrong idea was given by you Kim - you stated dogs are pack animals and needed only each other - probably were perfectly fine in cages.... and that the place looked good to you.... when most of us saw a puppy mill. Dirt floors and selling to PETLAND didn't seem to bother you - and THAT is why I had a hard time with that whole thread - no matter what was right there - you kept defending it and finding reasons to back up what you wanted to say. I'm all for different opinions but I know for a FACT that my yorkies would be MISERABLE in a cage - and so are most other dogs. A Mill is a Mill. Not a nice place. Period. There was no misunderstanding from what I read - I'm not saying you are FOR mills....I'm just stating that you sure defend lots of brokers and questionable sites such as that one. It's been an ongoing thing for months...we seem to have the same threads that go the same way as that one you just linked to. I don't think you were misunderstood at all. You were VERY explicit in your posting and defense of the site in question. It's done and over - can't you just leave it be ? from THAT thread ... a great new ANTI-PUPPY Mill site evolved so actually...in was in part thanks to you. |
Very eloquent, Villette. As long as I live I will have the pic in my mind's eye of the dogs in cages behind a barn in So. PA. There were 2 people who went in saying they were interested in dogs and might be considering starting a pet shop. While one distracted the "thing" the other one walked around back where she photographed animals who had been put back there in crates so they could starve to death..Yes, that is a fact. I participated in a letter-writing campaign to have the license rescinded..Our leveredge was that Lancaster and York, PA are dependent on tourism and shoppers dollars. We wrote to the officials and said simply that we would start a campaign across the country telling the story of the criminal treatment of animals. There is now a site that tells about that "pet" industry..I am sure you can find it under Amish Puppymills. |
