A few things I need advice on a couple things, but first - I have great news :teeth:! About two weeks ago, our baby Bear (who is 6 months now) finally "got it" and is on the road to being potty-trained :bravo: . It was weird - one day he peeped anywhere he pleased (he was famous for the walk-a-peep), and the next - he was "potty trained"! I know it's not official until they have less than one accident per month, but I can tell he finally understands!!! Happy days are here again. Between him stopping biting and him learnin to peep on the pad I am one happy Yorkie mom. I had a couple questions for you other Yorkie parents. 1) Our baby has grey hair on his head... is that normal? I read that tan or gold was what it was supposed to be and none of his Yorkie friends have grey... does it matter what color the hair is? 2) Also Bears ears are still down, and we never encouraged them to stand bc we thought people just did that for looks or something, but is there a health reason? :-? |
Congrats on the potty training, Roxie is 5 1/2 months and getting better but no where near trained. Roxie's head is quickly turning silver which is normal. It goes silver and then turns gold or tan. It can take awhile for it to change completely. Pixie is 2 and just recently turned almost all tan from the silver. As for the ears, do ypu shave the hair off the top 1/3 to keep the weight off them? That will sometimes be all that is needed. |
Oh so that is why the hair is trimmed? To make it so their ears dont feel heavy? I would have never guessed that. Well I better get on that then. Thank you also for letting me know about the hair coloring. I was concerned perhaps about his diet or something! Congrats on Roxie's progress. It is nice to see them moving in the right direction. Our 5 month old Malese will use the pad as long as it is within 5 feet, otherwise it is a free for all, so we have a long way to go with her. She does sneak-a-peeps, too, so sometimes I dont find them until it is a permanent stain! Oh well... thats how puppies go! Thanks again for the great advice! |
Congrats on the potty training :) Seems like your pup might have the hang of it :D I did want to say however, though he's showing great progress; whatever you do - please stay consistant with it. The moment you get laxed on the potty training, it will all go down hill and you'll have to start all over :( Im only speaking from experience, for this is what Ive had to do with my Meka recently... Really hope your baby continues to do good :) Keep us posted.... |
Thank you for the advice... I wouldnt have thought that they would un-learn it, but nothing surprises me when it comes to Yorkies! I will be vigilant! Good luck with the re-training! |
Maya is now 3 and I never could get her ears to stand up. The breeder I got her from said to put superglue on the ends! I could never do that to her, so the tips never did stand up. I think she looks cute with floppy ears. If you're going to show the dog........that would be another thing. |
Congrats on the potty training. I personally think floppy ears are cute. |
Welcome to YT!!! What part of SoCal are you from? Congrats on the potty training! :) |
Thanks for the warm welcome. Mu husband, Bear (Yorkie), Lulu (Maltese), and I live in Orange County. So I am getting the impression that it doesnt matter one way or the other to the dog whether their ears stand up or not? I think it is cute, too, but I didnt want to be neglecting an important health issue. |
