New puppy in the house Hi everyone, We have a new puppy in the house, a 2 month old female Westie. We have called her Sweetie. She is a lovely little pup very laid back and playful and a very good eater. Now some of you may know we have Tiny, a Yorkie, who is an 18 month old castrated male. Also a lovely dog but highly strung, he thinks he is a person and not a dog. Anyway, we introduced them last night and for Sweetie it was love at first sight but for Tiny no, he ran away and hid under the bed and wouldn't come out all night lol! She is a quarter of his size and neither are agressive to each other in the slightest. Do you think it will just take time for Tiny to adjust to her?? It breaks my heart when he runs away because Sweetie's face is so crestfallen!!! |
First of all congrats on Sweetie..such a cute name! Westies are awesome dogs!! I dont think you have anything to worry about..sometimes it takes a little while for the resident dog to adjust to the newcomer but I bet in no time you will be posting pics of the two of them snuggling together!! Speaking of pics...where are yours?? :p Dawn |
I haven't quite worked out how to do the avatar thingy yet! lol Any tips appreciated, I do have pics to share |
They'll adjust. When I first brought Gus home he was 2 pound and our 60 pound dog ran from him. :D She is submissive and Gus is the dominant one but they get along great. |

Congratulations on your new addition. I'm sure they will be friends in no time :) |
All In Good Time We now have eight Yorkies :yelrotflm :yelrotflm :yelrotflm :yelrotflm Each time we add a new one, it just takes a little time for them to sort out their place in the "pack". I once had two females who were not happy with each other, but eventually we were able to sort it out and now it is okay. It sounds like Tiny just needs mom's assurance that he hasn't been replaced and that he is still number one. Yorkies like to be number one, regardless of what other dogs are in the house. Good luck! Have managed to put an avatar of Sweetie on, will keep adding more when I have edited the pictures. Tiny is still pooping himself whenever she comes into room, though every now and again he ventures in to see what he's missing out on. Hopefully he will get used to her because she loves him lol :aimeeyork |
I'll bet in time they become best friends. Congrats on the new baby. |
Update on puppy in the house It's day 3 in the new puppy house and things have not improved that much. Tiny still freaks out if Sweetie comes within a metre of him and he is also not eating. I think it is because Sweetie keeps stealing out of his dish, I catch her most of the time but once she has done it Tiny can smell her on the food and won't eat it!!! Tiny is a free feeder, he has two meals a day which he can pick at when he wants as it's rare he eats everything all in one go. I don't know how to let Tiny continue with his routine whilst stopping Sweetie from stealing the food. She loves eating!! I've thought about raising the dishes somehow, but Tiny isn't that tall. Any suggestions??? :p |
