Hypothetical Q, *If your furbabies sleep in your bed* I FINALLY got my belly pierced last week, I've been wanting it since HS but have never got the nerve to do it, but my fiance was getting tattooed last week so I decided to go ahead and do it! The guy told me I shouldn't have my pets sleep in my bed right away because their dander could irritate the piercing site. Well there's no way I could make my babies sleep on the floor, I think it would be kinda mean because they would have no idea why, since they always sleep on my bed. I asked the guy if I tuck my shirt in so my belly is covered if it would be o.k and he said yeah as long as I leave it loose so it doesn't push the piercing. And since Leo got tattoos on both of his arms, we didn't want Rocky and Bella scratching at them or anything, so I know it probably would've been best for our safety if they slept on their own beds, but there was no way I could do that. So my question is, if your furbaby always sleeps in your bed and for whatever reason, you had surgery, injury, piercing they could bite at, etc, and you were adviced to not let them in the bed, would you still let them in the bed? I'm asking this because I'm sure theres more extreme cases then mine when furbabies shouldn't be on the bed, and I wanted to know what most people would do. |
My Lily sleeps with me no matter what. |
I would still sleep with her, just make sure you are wearing something that covers your belly so she doesnt snag it. :) |
That's a tough one..A.J would be so heartbroken if he couldn't sleep on the bed. He's such a cuddler :D If it was necessary though I probably would kick him off the bed. He would have to sleep in his crate though because he'd find his way back up if I didn't put him in there. |
I had that done (many many years ago)...and they didn't tell me anything like that. In fact, the very next day, we took the Jeeps off road and stuff....There are other everyday things that could irritate it..like dirt, lotions, soaps/shampoo's, lint, etc...I mean, I think if he didn't mention those everyday things...I wouldn't worry about some pet dander...besides...I don't think Yorkies are that bad regarding pet dander....because a lot of people w/ dog allergies can handle Yorkies. (just my thoughts) |
1 Attachment(s) My partner has two half-sleeve tribal tattoos...our fur-babies slept in our bed back then the whole time. I have a few piercings myself and Shay slept curled up against me the whole time. I have also had surgery (tummy tuck after my kids) and Trini & Coco were in bed with me as well, so ????? All I can say is, some people don't understand our fur-babies & some people never will??? Also, as Jen218 said I believe Yorkies (and a few other breeds) do not have as much dander as most breeds and that is why people with allergies can usually tolerate them. Well, enjoy your belly button piercing. Just be careful, lol, they are addictive :p I have 5 "unconventional" piercings and want another soon...and by looking at me I don't think you could ever tell  |
You're probably gonna think I'm plum dumb crazy for this, but, I had three brain bleeds and when I was finally able to come home from the hospital, I still had a lot of healing to do on the outside. I let my 95 pound boxer sleep in my bed with me, he always has, no way could I make him sleep on the floor. I was fine. Now that isn't a suggestion for anyone to do the same, it's just me and what I did. Good luck! |

Ah, you'll be fine. They just tell you that stuff so that you can't back and blame them if some kind of freak incident happens. They told me I couldn't kiss or do other things (cough cough) with my mouth for 6 weeks after I got my Marliyn piercing. I did, and guess what, nothing happened!! Just make sure to keep it clean and you'll be ok! |
:) I'm not worried about them sleeping in my bed, I have let them ever since I got it done, I was just wondering what other people would do, or if it was something more severe then a piercing. |
It is a proven fact that people and children that are raised around dogs develop a stronger immune system and are sick less often. Personally, I would not worry about it. You are more likely to get staph or something like that by going to Wal-mart. |

I agree! As long as it is covered I wouldn't worry about it. I have had my belly button done too! If it starts getting irritated, I would then worry about it. I think he was probably going with "worst case scenario." |
