chinese shar pei and a yorkie My husband wants a shar pei but I'm nervous having one eventually around Andy (and my future lil girl)......anybody know anything on how these two breeds mesh? |
last one I saw was a neighbors.. and he had my 5 pound girl in his mouth.. I was screaming.. I hated that dog, he use to jump the chain link fence and just walk into my house.. he would come in with his teeth showing and my hubby's army boots would come up.. he was scary.. I was not the only neighbor that hated that dog... I sure would talk him into anything but....:animal36 |
i heard someone else having both on here. I would think if you did both would have to be puppys at the same time. Although with that said its a chinese fighting dog. |
I don't really know much about the breed. He had one with a kid and has wanted one ever since but I don't ever see myself being without a yorkie again and he says eventually he will have one lol so you see the delimma |
I personally won't own a large dog since I have a yorkie. I just think you take a risk with ANY larger dog....they are just so much bigger and could accidentally hurt one of them by even stepping on them..and could really do some damage if they decide they want to hurt one. I'll just always have toy breeds (which I like the best anyway)...just not worth the risk to me |

if your not married, don't get married... hee hee just kidding of course.. |
If I were you, I would talk to a breeder about Chinese Sharpai. If the breeder is any good, they will tell you wheter they get along with Yorkies. They don't want one of their dogs to lose a home or be adopted out to someone who's house isn't going to work. Call a few breeders and get lots of advice. I personally have a Golden Ret. and 3 yorkies (soon to be 4 come Tuesday. Yea, Me) The yorkies are much more vocal and protective than the Golden. Of course, a Golden is NOT a guard dog. He would probably show a theif where the good china is. Ask around and find out. |

I have always loved big dogs. Until recently I have had a very very large chocolate lab and my littles. I used to hate little dogs until just a few years ago. I dont have issues with having large and small dogs together as long as they get along well. I had a nightmare of a shar pei come into the vets office once, and have not cared for the breed since. I always thought they were beautiful though. |
If you want a larger dog, get it while its a puppy. My bf and I are consider a super sized doggy (great dane, mastiff, etc) when we get our own place. He has a pitbull at his moms house who is now a family dog, so he's not coming with.. But since he's had bigger dogs, I'm going to let him get one when we have the room.. |
I have one Ihave had a total of four in 20 yrs my male was beloved but not good with other dogs the others were female the greastest dogs in the world gentle smart house trained in days loyal I will always have one PS my yorkie is the boss of the house they will take care of your other pets thats there job |
my uncle's My mom's older brother had one for about 15yrs ...maybe...anyway one day it just freaked and tried to attack his granddaughter while she was pregnant. He shot it.... he said it just lost it and he couldn't get near it!! (they live way out in the country). Anyway, it nearly broke his heart as he loved her for a lot of years and then boom FREAKED out. Although, I have to say I never trusted her... she was a bit scarey (but you know how owners always say...ahhhh.... she is just a big baby!) |
