Look what was scoping out my backyard today 4 Attachment(s) This hawk has been swooping down in my yard for the last couple of days. Today I finally got pictures when he landed in a tree in my neighbors yard. I have to keep the dog door locked so my babies won't go outside without one of us with them. Mike says they are only trying to get the many birds that are around, but I don't think I want to take a chance. |
wow!! very pretty!! But no way would I let my babies out with that flying around!! I wonder what he wants since he's been flying around your house for days:confused: If you do let the babies out.. make sure it's on a leash (just in case).. and bring a broom with you too :p j/k |
Don't take that chance. They will go after small dogs. I'll never forget the story (on YT) of the yorkie that was picked up right in front of her owner. I can't even imagine the horror. |
The other day on my way to school with kids on the bus...they got to see a Redtail Hawk swoop down and pick up a rat or something that size and fly off. As I drive the bus...there are times that I will stop so the kids can see something 'real life' instead of on a nature program. Those hawks can pick up some pretty big animals. |
we have one flying around here to my hubby told me just the other day he will shoot it:eek: we have a big fenced yard and a big deck that we sit on so my babies are out with us all the time.not taking any chances with that hawk. |

I live in the country and we see a lot of hawks. Since their has been so much growth in the area, the natural food for the hawks is disappearing and the birds are hungry. Pardon the pun, but I watch like a hawk when I let the kids outside for a romp in the sun. |

I hope you are up for the "School Bus Driver of the Year" award. I wish my kids could have ridden on YOUR bus. I have to admit that I have stopped to scoop up turtles off the road, scoot snakes from harm's way and slammed on the brakes to avoid possums, deer, raccoons, squirrels, and even a chipmunk or two. |
Mascot I wish you were my daughter's bus driver!!!! I had to take my daughter off the bus and carpool her because her bus driver was so mean to the kids, saying shut your faces and my daughter cried to not get on the bus, I made 3 different complaints but they always said, we'll talk to her, the more I complained the more it seemed she was mean to Ashley.... so i just removed her. I am happy to hear there are women who love their job like you do!!!! Good Job. Dot |

There was a hawk perched on our gate one day. I just told my son not to take the dog outside at all that day. It's amazing when they are at rest how small they seem--you'd never know that it could do serious damage to a small animal. |
We live on a farm. Hawks are rampant in our area. I saw one fly over me so low that I could see he had a fish from the local lake. I also saw one behead one of our chickens! I work with exotic birds and the horror stories come with the job. One of our customers was on his porch with his parrot on his shoulder and a hawk actually swooped him! So, yea in my opinion a hawk would take a Yorkie. :( |
that is scary good thing u saw him..i wouldnt go out there and if u do i would seriously put them on a leash and bring a broom stick so u can swat it away..becareful |
Thats a little too close for Comfort  |
We have them flying all over my neighborhood( i live infront of some woods). These things are huge!!! One reason im teaching the new pup on puppy pads, because we have all kinds of wild and loose animals around here. Ever seen a wild turkey come out your backyard lol:confused: And I just hate the snakes:eek: So puppy pads for us unless its daytime and i can see where im walking and whats stalking us :( |
WE live in a subdivision with lots of trees so there are LOTS of birds. I have seen them flying around here a lot. We sometimes get an advance warning because all of the birds scatter. This guy was too brave for my comfort. Mike keeps a pellet gun on the back patio ever since we saw him. He doesn't want to shoot him, but tries to scare him away. But he keeps coming back |
Wow, that is all pretty scary to me. I worry all the time about this problem. I have a friend here in Florida and she lives beside a farm, she does not let her dogs outside. she is now making a large large pen with a roof on it.. she is that scared all the time. |
We have hawks out where we live as well. We've had hawks circle us so low that you could hear their wings flapping. They have also snatched some chickens and young pheasants from my neighbor. Daisy is never allowed outside alone, someone always has to be at her side. They are quite beautiful but also quite dangerous to small animals. |
As I am writing this my husband is putting one of those fake owls in my back yard in hopes of scaring away the hawks. Don't know if it will work but it makes me feel better:D Murfee NEVER goes out by himself. |
it's really a shame because i live in a beautiful home in a wooded area and hawks are ruining my entire experience here. i thought i was going to have peace living out here... i need a friend with a gun. |
