Maggie is home from 9:45 to 3:45 everyday by herself and she does just fine. I put up a gate at the doorway to the hall so she can't get in the bathroom or bedrooms. She has the living room and kitchen to herself. I'm about 95% sure all she does is curl up on the couch and sleep all day. She has enough food, water and a clean potty pad every morning. She also has all her toys to play with. She does great home alone. |
i think that may be a little long. i defenatly think that you should get 2. and you might want to think about an older dog 1 year or so. that way they don't need the constant attention like a puppy. i'm not saying they don't need a lot of attention just that its different. |
I think 2 would be too much for a new yorkie owner. 1 will be plenty to begin and learn with. It sucks that our babies have to be home during work hours but at least she's lucky enough to come home on her lunch break. Jtran, I think you will have a great time with one healthy yorkie to love. I would wait at least a few months before considering 2. It can be fun with 2 of them playing I'm sure but I bet it can be overwhelming especially if it's your first yorkie. Think about it, but I think you would have a great time with 1 and you sound like you would be a great mommy. |

I agree with... i think 2 would be overwhelming to begin with... ...it seems like some may or may not adjust well just depening on the personality of the pup. I have not decided yet... but if i do i am very set on on this breed. at this point it just a matter of timing....since i have several vacation planned at the end of this year...it maybe best to wait until 2006...meanwhile i can start saving for vet bills and such... Until i get my own i can continue to baby sit my sister in law's and spoil her yorkie... Quote:

I think that a lot of it is conditioning. Those of us who have always left our dog alone for 4-5 hours at a time, have dogs who are used to that. Honestly on days when I am home all day, Syd gets cranky in the afternoon because she hasn't had enough nap time. Any puppy...but specifically a toy dog...is a life change. But if you are willing to accomodate the needs of your dog by doing things like coming home on your lunch break...I think that you will have a happy and well-adjusted dog. Do you spend most of your leisure time at home? I would be more concerned with a prospective owner who works 8 hours a day and then goes out on the town every night. If a good majority of your non-working hours will be spent at home...then you should be fine. If I can work 60 hours a week and still own a healthy yorkie...then so can you! :D |
