How do you Politely tell someone.... ...in your family that you dont want their kids over your house? I have these 2 kids (7 and 10) that come over all the time, on my husband's side. I adore these girls and they adore me, and I just adore their mom as well... My problem is how do I tell them to quit coming over? Nicely? I dont want to hurt feelings and make things unconfortable. I am really not any good at words, and sometimes I come out a little rude? But my Yorkies come 1st and I need as calm as can be enviroment for my upcoming babies and all that. |
Tell them exactly what you just said on here! Good luck! :) |
Tell them you are busy or going out:) |

Good Luck!! |
I agree be straight forward with them. Let them know your concerns, if you dont it may develop a problem later on. |
Say it exactly as you need to say it. I also know what it is like to have people (friends) that do not know how to tell the kids to just leave the dogs alone.. there have been times when I feel like I am just going to lose it.. they do not listen.. last time my friend was here with her two grandchildren.. all of my dogs had the poops for days... |
dont answer the phone ! Thats what i do |
be honest. |
honestly is the best policy! but i understand where you're coming from, its not so easy to just say it to their faces. i would just keep telling them you're busy or about to leave the house and if they show up unexpectedly (sp check) tell them you are just on your way out and they cant stay there... eventually they should get the hint, right? lol |
All easier said than done. Generally I know what needs to be said but it is soooo difficult. I feel for you. Good luck! |
Alot of those are good answers, however, they live in the duplex we live in (like we share a common wall) Which makes some of the suggestions not easily done. Well..... I will keep you posted! |
Just let them know that until the puppies are born and older, you don't want anyone over to your house. You need them to be in a calm environment and don't want them being exposed to potential diseases. Maybe you can offer to come hang out at their house occassionally or go out for outings such as ice cream or to the park. |
Ouch..sticky situation with family...I know my brother would probably not appreciate being told he cant bring his kids over...what about another approach..teaching the kids the proper way to act around your dogs..if they are sweet and good kids they should easily learn this concept..they are definetly old enough to understand..have a day with JUST the two kids and be firm with them..watch them interact and correct them as the day goes on..positive reinforcement with the kids just like the dogs..I would never be able to tell my neices/nephews not to come over.. I just re-read and it seems like they arent your neices but still family..id give what I said a try..talk to their parents about your concerns too and what you want to teach their kids so they can enforce it too..
