Boatin with Yorkies
 
Well, Summers just around the corner and time to get the boat out! My hubby said we shouldn't take Charlie out on the boat because he's small and might not like the bumps. I think we should and plus I saw this life vest at Petco and think charlie would be safe wearing it. Do any of you have any experiance taking your yorkies out for boat rides or should I listen to the hubby?:rolleyes:

We have a sailboat and take ours they love it. As long as he has a life vest he will be fine

Our Kenji used to love going out in our speed boat with us, Kass was petrified of it so I guess it depends on the dog. Kenji slipped off it once and scared us to death even though he had a life jacket on. It didnt fizz him a bit we still had to watch him like a hawk to keep him from running up on the bow the second the boat stopped.

in summer, we take our boat out at the very least 3 times a week and ours love it. They wear their life jackets and they like to float on the floaties with us too. Ours has an underneath cabin they can go in and take a snooze, but they are usually out there with us doing whatever we do:) Here's some pics of mine enjoying lake-life.

Here is Layla on the boat! when we are moving she wears a life jacket and sleeps the WHOLE TIME... could care less about what is going on.. but when we stop she has to look around :)

oh and the first picture was taken on a Baja... we went 70 mph and she slept through the whole thing :p

We have kayaks, and Sophie has a life vest. She rides for a while, and then she wants to be passed back and forth from my boat to my husband's. It gets old after a while. She has also jumped in the water a couple times, and I am not really sure whether she likes it or not. We will probably take her once and a while, but sometimes we just want to relax, and she is definitely high maintenance.:D

Our boyz loved our boat last summer, I just kept their leashes on so I could keep track of them. I'm hoping the girls will enjoy it this summer too!

Maybe ask your hubby if you want to spend time alone or would it be ok to take the dogs once in a while. Does he feel like hes competng with the dogs. Wow I sound like Dr phil huh

My husband and I take our three out in the boat with us. They wear their lifejackets and I think they really like it as long as the water isn't too rough.:animal-pa

There is a picture in my avatar with Murfee and my husband on the boat. He has a life jacket but wasn't wearing it at the time.

My sister takes her yorkie out on her boat all the time. She puts a life jacket on her and they have a blast. We had a silky that loved the water! In fact, some of my fondest memories of him are at the lake/beach.

I'm glad this question was asked.
We boat all summer long and I want to take Abby with us. She will be 6 months old in June.
Do you worry about them getting hot? I wouldn't really want her in the water in the river. The river is kind of nasty. Do you just take plenty of water with you to keep them cool?

Yes we do we take bottle water for them to drink and I take a spray bottle wth water to mist them off with

i bring a lot of water and things like watermelon or melon that have a lot of water in them but that she will eat willingly :) i also bring an ice pack (like one you would put on your back) and will wrap a towel around it and if she gets to hot she loves to lay on it! if you dont' have an ice pack.. frozen veggies work well. The first summer i had her i'd bring her outside in her crate with some frozen veggies and she would nap in the crate but she was still outside with me while i layed in the sun :)

Great question. Lot's of our friends boat with their dogs. We plan on boating with Hot Rod. It was a challenge trying to find a life vest for a 2.4 pd dog but we did. We've been acclamating him to the vest...didn't like it at first but I think he's getting used to it. He walked sideways the first couple of times we put it on him--like a crab! It was hysterical! :sidesplt: I found a place that has other vests that I am going to take a look at, I'd like to find one that has the mesh on his belly and buckles on top.
