Has anyone ever heard of displaced ribs? I did not post in the emergency section, as this is not an emergency, just a concern. My Brandi Blu was born with bones stcking out (one in the chest area, and one more towards the stomach). The vet said she had displaced ribs which most likely occured during the birthing process. He said that "most likely" she will have little or no effects from this in the future. Does anyone else have a baby with displaced ribs? You can actually feel the bone sticking out when I pick her up, but she has no discomfort from it at all. She's an acrobat for sure, and we are always worried about her "delicate" nature, but she seems to be just as rough and tough as the rest of them! Also, does anyone know of any potential problems she may face later on in life? Right now she is 4 months old. |
I don't know if this is what Izzy has, but you can feel her breastbone, it sticks out right above her tummy. It's never caused her any pain or other issues and the vet just said that it's normal for some dogs:confused: |
Yes, it sure sounds like the same thing. I guess it really isn't a big deal, but I just wanted to see how many other babies out there were born with this. I guess I will get used to it, but it just feels so strange to me. I guess it is more obvious since she is a puppy, and on the "skinny" side. She's actually about 4 1/2 pounds, but she is not "stocky" like her other brothers & sister, she is more "long & lean". When she's sleeping on her back, I can actually see the bones protruding. |
You can see and feel Sissy's breast bone (right in the middle). It's kind of scarey. When I first felt it I thought it was a broken bone. She is 2 1/2 and it never seems to bother her. |
My vet showed me in a medical book the bones you are talking about. I thought chewy broke something:eek: He said some dogs are born with the bone your talking about bigger or longer. Chewy's feels big just above his stomach, and around his colier bone also. I don't know anything about displaced ribs... But this med book had pics, and all so I think it is fine. |
