She is always cold!!!! My sweet little Lucy gets cold so easily. My other Yorkie (10 pound Buddy) never gets cold and hates to wear his PJ's or any clothes. Lucy is only 3 pounds and she really needs to have the extra clothes on because is she always cold. (I cannot find any PJ's to fit her) I really worry about her at night getting cold. I put her in a little t-shirt and wrap her in blankets but I am still afraid that she gets cold. My DH, my son and I cannot sleep unless the house is nice and cool 65 degrees. This may be a stupid question but can I use a heating pad on low to keep her warm at night in her crate? PLEASE don't yell at me.....I know it may sound dangerous but I am really worried about her getting cold. She has been in my lap all night and has still been cold (it is FREEZING outside)...my DH went and got the heating pad to warm her up. She loves it!!! I have it on low beside where I am sitting and she is all curled up on it....sleeping like a baby!!! Just wondering what suggestions you guys had to keep her warm. BYW, she sleeps alone in her crate not with Buddy. (Buddy likes his space) |
Order some pjs from shana (tinkerbellscloset.com)or one of the other great seamstresses here on YT. Zoey is 2 lbs and that is where I got mine from. Zoey also sleeps in her crate and I got a nice down throw to put in there for her. |
I don't know how safe a heating pad would be. I mean, it seems okay as long as she doesn't chew on cords. I know there is a type of heating pad made of rice, you can put in the microwave and heat up, but of course it would stay warm the whole night, but maybe if you put her on top it, with a blanket, the heat would stay in longer? |
Tia is only 2.5 pounds full grown and is cold all the time. We make sure there are blankets allover the house for her to snuggle in to. We let our babies sleep with us at night so she stays under the covers until the bed is made in the morning. She is a snuggle bug. :D |
There are a lot of YTers that make custom order PJs. The site I would recommend is www.mygofetch.com. Des is AMAZING and she has the cutest stuff. Also, a lot of people use the SnuggleSafe Disk. It's a microwavable heating pad that stays warm for up to 12 hours. I haven't used it personally but I've heard lots of good things. You can buy all kinds of fleece covers for it. Amazon.com: Pet Supply Imports - SnuggleSafe... Hope this helps! |
They make dog heating pads and dog beds that have heating pads in them they can be kind of expensive but worth it in my opnion I got Callie one and shes 12 pounds and still gets cold at night and she is to long for the any of the dog pjs which is weird but anyway i put the dog heating pad in her crate and she loves it curls right on it and goes to sleep and it has never felt like its to hot to burn her or anything. |
It can be harder for the tiny ones to regulate their body temperature. Have you seen the heated disks you can pop in the microwave? They are very safe and stay warm for many hours. http://www.carealotpets.com/item-det...00000000001874 |
Banjo is 9 # and he gets cold - I keep tshirts- or hoodies on him a lot. Even with them on, he likes to sleep right in front of the warm fireplace! I think most yorkies are cold natured! |
My little Gemma is just 3 lbs too and she is often very cold too! I have a heated pet bed for the girls in the kitchen and I love love love it! They weight of their body warms it up when they lay on it. All 3 can fit it together too :D At night they sleep with us so I don't think they are cold at all. She always "spoons" me!! Haha its hilarious! Plus I put the electric blanket on for my side too.... I would highly recommend the heated bed!! |
one good way to keep them warm is to make sure there is no breeze in the room at all. try buying one of those cat beds that have like a roof over them...http://www.petco.com/product/104515/...tty-Cabin.aspx something like that with a small baby blanket and a rice microwave heat pad under the bed itself would probably keep yur kid as warm as needed. This however being the cheap and easy solution, a heated pet bed would work as well. maybe keep her in a pen and on the outside of the pen face a space heater towards her in a serperate room. |
peanut uses a heating frisbee like thing i bought at petsmart. its covered with cloth, and u pop it into the microwave and it stays warm for hours. i think it was only like 15 dollars. |
I also use a heating pad for both the yorkie and jack russell, also their kennels are completely close in on three sides to avoid drafts. they seem to love it as they go in their on their own. just make sure you keep iton the lowest setting and I also put it in bewteen bed and cover zip it up, I have done this for several years, never had a problem. |
It seems like the little ones are always cold, I keep my 2 that are 3 pds in clothes all the time, Not sure about the heating pad ? Lots of blankets for them to snuggle on to:) I find that pjs are the best:) |
Kash sleeps with me at night so he's warm, but during the colder days i leave a heating pad under his bedding in his crate on the low setting (while i'm at work). the cord is well-hidden (although i still worry sometimes). i come home at lunch, and he's fine, and there's no sign of him trying to mess with it. i guess it depends on the dog... Kash isn't too mischievous... thank goodness! |
I have a heating blanket and Chloe loves it! |
